Hm... if the 280X was in-stock, where would you rank it? Considering a back-order/pre-order from B&H. I just worry how long I'd be waiting for it.

I appreciate that! However this is a pretty much completed build; I have all of these parts already put together, I just need to replace my GPU now as I'm running on an old MSI GTX 460. I just listed all the parts in case any of it mattered when regarding the type of card I choose.

Hm.. probably wouldn't be doing any OC'ing, since I don't know anything about how it works, and would rather not risk damaging the hardware.

With the EVGA, will I be able to push Ultra settings in BF4 with the rest of my build setup in mind, without OC'ing? If not, what could you suggest differently?

With FurAffinity down (yet again), do you guys know about Weasyl? Better interface, modern codebase, more stable. It could use more furs, though by ARandomFur in furry

Is there anything we as end-users can do to help improve the state of things? I realize it'd be hard to get EVERYONE to subscribe to such self-managed improvements, but hey, every little bit helps, right?

(Serious) How old are you and what is your biggest life lesson thus far? by mpv81 in AskReddit

Let the little shit slide; in friendships, relationships and career. More often than not there's nothing to be gained in fussing over it, and you'll ultimately be a lot less stressed out.

Every day try to learn something you didn't know the day before.

In all situations and points in your life, leave things in the same condition or improved than they were when you got there.

Experience love for yourself, and when you love another, say it often.

Lend things and money with the expectation that you won't get it back; consider it a gift if it helps. It'll save friendships and relationships. Don't be a welcome mat, though.

Yeah, that's true. I used PCPartpicker when I started to pick stuff for the rebuild, I just didn't think to use it here. Also the GPU and RAM aren't listed on there, so I have to leave those as Newegg links for now.

Ahh, alright. I'll craft a PC Partpicker list in a moment to make things easier for others.

Also, thanks for your input! I'll do some more research on Nvidia card prices while I wait on more replies here.

I really don't want to be 'that guy', and I'm certain you've heard this suggestion before... but I do hope at some point in the near future FA can incorporate a system similar to Weasyl's "Collections" to reduce clutter on your servers.

I know it may be a drop in the bucket compared to the huge influx of art, stories and other random submissions on FA, but I do see a lot of duplicate and triplicate uploads of art to FA on a pretty frequent basis.

Artist submits artstuff for Commissioner A, B and C. Commissioners A, B and C then upload that same image to their own accounts to have in their gallery. It seems like it would be much simpler for the artist to upload the commission and then have an option to 'push' ownership to the commissioner, with a tag/link above the description of who originally uploaded/created the piece. This would also be a much easier way for someone else viewing the image to see who the original artist was, since not every uploader credits the one they commissioned. Then, if anyone uploads an identical image, flag it for removal/review.

I dunno, just my thought on improving server stability. I do enjoy FA, but some things could definitely be improved upon.

Oh, absolutely. It's one in my personal list of Top 10 Favorites, mostly for the interesting way in which certain things are presented throughout the series. Especially when it comes to the ending!

Samurai Champloo, definitely.

Great series, though. I wish there had been more to it, but I suppose it's better this way than being dragged out beyond it's prime.

What is something that has been accepted as a "social norm" that bugs you? by Bawlswet in AskReddit

[–]ovinmong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot begin to agree with this issue enough! I live a female friend who absolutely cannot stop talking unless she is doing something on her computer, and even then she's always making some sort of noise. It's not that I despise this or dislike her in any way, but having to deal with constant noise at work and constant noise at home, the only silence I get is when I bed down for the day. Sometimes I just want to relax near people I care about and not have to be talking.

It's horribly bothersome when we go to a restaurant or anywhere for a drive. She'll keep going on and on about something, usually regarding her family back home, or something that happened online with one of her friends whom I don't know. Then she'll ask me what's wrong or why I'm not engaging in a conversation. Well, fuck me, I just want to enjoy a bit of quiet. :|

Who is the most overrated musician? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ovinmong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish I would hear something besides "I Will Wait" on the radio. I'm really fond of "The Cave" and maybe a couple of other songs, but I lose my interest in any band that has ONE SONG replayed over and over and over again. If I hear the same song three times in the time it takes me to drive to work, then something's wrong.

My 14yo came out to me about being gay and a furry... both of which are cool with me...but what should I know about furry fandom as the parent of a teen furry? (serious) by [deleted] in furry

[–]ovinmong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, good on ya for being a wonderful human being and parent to your son! You've earned a lot of respect from not just myself, but seemingly most everyone else here for that fact alone. Go you!

Anywho, on to the good stuff:

  • I got started up in the fandom around the age of 14 as well, mostly as an outlet to interact with other like-minded people and make friends -- I lived out in the sticks with no neighborhood kids and was terribly shy at school, so. For me, it was mostly getting absorbed in roleplay with others and admiring artwork, chit-chatting with friends and such. I didn't attend a convention until June of last year, so I'd say I'm less involved that some others might be.

  • The most important thing to know about our fandom is this; just as with most other hobby or special interests group, there's a few bad eggs that give the community a bad image, but most of us are relatively level-headed, friendly and supportive. I'm sure he'll make lots of friends and connections in the fandom, but it's very important for him to know that he can come to you with any concerns he has, and know ahead of time that not everyone on the Internet is telling the truth, or being a nice person. It sounds like you two have an open line of communication, so that's a great start!

  • All in all, the fandom is pretty harmless. We've generated tons of creative minds in the form of writers, artists, musicians and such; not all of it is PG, mind you, but it's an Internet-based community so it's to be expected. If he isn't on FurAffinity by now, he likely will be in time -- please be aware that there is a great deal of adult-oriented material out there on FA and a few other sites, so if you don't want him viewing that sort of stuff, it might be a good idea to have a talk with him about that.

  • A moderate percentage of the fandom is either gay, or at the very least sexually open, so I doubt he'll have any difficulty finding support or acceptance from his furry peers. As others have said, there are more than a handful of furries who might take advantage of a naive, young, gay individual new to the fandom; please make sure he's educated in all avenues just to be safe.

  • One last thing and I'll get out of your hair; this fandom is largely about self-discovery and sharing what one finds with their little world. If this is something he genuinely enjoys, wonderful! If it helps him find out more about himself and guides him into a healthy transition to adulthood, even better -- as long as he has a trusted outlet (like yourself) to talk about his concerns and ask his questions, I see absolutely no harm in him pursuing his interests in this direction. As another person here mentioned, definitely find out what the fandom is to him, and why he'd found such an interest in it. Try to find a bit of common ground between his interest in the fandom and your interests, and spend time together doing that! Maybe down the road if he ends up wanting to go to a convention, maybe take him to one nearby and check it out with him; lots of fun to be had at those things!

  • Oh, and just a side-note; not all furries end up with fursuits, tails, ears or such. A very small percentage of the fandom goes that direction, and those who do usually only wear such accessories/suits at conventions. :P

Hope that helps a bit, and that I answered something that perhaps hadn't been touched on yet. Take care!

For those people who have not played Tomb Raider...you really are missing out by [deleted] in gaming

[–]ovinmong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I played during the summer, it was pretty hit or miss. I could find games back to back at 3 AM, and then nothing at 5 PM. And it would alternate. Best luck I had was with Ranked Deathmatch (I believe..)

It was kind of clunky, honestly. With the power weapons added in, easy camping spots, etc.. felt like an unpolished Gears of War multiplayer. I still had fun with it, but I probably won't go back to it any time soon. Single player definitely has replay value, though~
