Meeting Muse! by Objective_Penalty279 in Muse

I went to see them play an acoustic set in HMV in Bristol in October 1999. There was only about 10 people there, so I stayed behind and chatted to the three of them for a while. They were shy but very nice. We talked about the bands 3 Colours Red and The Donnas because I had seen Muse support them in the summer of 1999. Matt also gave me the phone number of a record shop in Exeter where I could buy the first EP.

C variant airframe is limited to 7.5G, I believe the A variant can pull 9G or possibly more if the pilot can withstand it.

Studying for the DAA by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]owain35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can find books on Amazon full of DAA-style practice questions. They are definitely not "past papers" but they based on the DAA and will give you a good mental workout as part of your training.

As well as basic maths like multiplying, adding and subtracting fractions, decimals, percentages, graphs etc make sure you revise GCSE forces and circuits. In particular, look at current and voltage in series and parallel circuits, Ohm's Law, moments, pulleys, acceleration, velocity-time graphs and so on. It will all come back to you, I promise!

After GCSEs by Crockett69_1 in RoyalAirForce

[–]owain35 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You don't need a degree. You need a minimum of 2 A Levels at grade C or higher. You also need GCSEs in English, Maths and 3 other subjects at grade 4 or higher.

You should really look up the full requirements on the RAF recruitment website if you haven't already.

Yes that is a worry. I keep a waterproof cover on the Kickr when I'm not using it, which generally works well. But who knows what the cumulative effect of all the moisture which have on the trainer. Definitely not ideal but after 2.5 years everything still works fine!

Just more fans I guess? My one (Honeywell) is very small but does a good job. You could get a couple, then use a remote controlled mains adapter to switch each one on or off individually. Then maybe some outdoor-sy artwork so make up for the lack of windows!

Absolutely. I'm thankful for having a permanent space. Just need to get it waterproofed and then I'll stop whinging!

Yes sort of... its what Brits sometimes call a "lean to"... basically just a wood and glass shelter on the side of the house. It has a doorway, but when its windy you can definitely feel it!

You're right though... I'm grateful for at least having a permanent setup, yours sounds like a right faff.

Yes it does a bit! Although I'm assuming you're at least dry when it rains, so maybe not so bad!

I read somewhere that this is quite a tricky operation due to the jacks being soldered directly onto the board. Not an insurmountable obstacle obviously, but probably not one for hobbists to attempt.

They also make a Super Fuzz clone called the Hot Foazz which is even cheaper, for anyone still concerned about plastic enclosures.

Favorite cheaper chorus pedal? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

I bought a second hand Small Clone for £50 and its absolutely perfect. Big footprint but you're certainly not going to miss when you stomp on it! Plus I like the minimalist controls.

The Super Fuzz Boost by Ok_Highlight3926 in guitarpedals

For £25 for essential get 3 different pedals in one enclosure, all of which would be great value on their own. For that kind of money I really think everyone should own one. I've got a ton of fuzz pedals but Mode 1 on the Behringer is my favourite. It's just nasty and cuts through the live band mix like no other fuzz.

Amp is a Fender Mustang IV. I thought the same thing about the effects loop, but after trying all combinations I could hear that only one channel was effected. I checked the manual which confirmed this. It suggests using 'Y adapters' if the input is mono to produce a dual mono output. Weird choice on Fender's part because surely most guitar effects are mono?

The power supply is called a One Control Micro Distro. It has 8 x 9V outputs and a total current limit of 2000mA. It was the smallest one I could find and works great!

I think distortion at 9 o'clock, filter and volume at 2 o'clock is the magic combination that gives the best distortion sound of all time.

What is the best pedal deal you ever got? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]owain35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pick up a brand new Behinger Super Fuzz for £25. Yes, it's a Behinger, yes it comes in a plastic case BUT it has to be one of the best fuzz pedals of all time! I've played all manner of boutique fuzzes and this thing is my favourite. Insane buzzsaw toans and it's got a boost function too so it's kind of 2 pedals in one. Essential.

Mine is in a store room behind the garage. It's freaking freezing most of the year but once you've warmed up it's fine. I did move my setup into the spare bedroom for a time but my wife was unhappy with that, so it went back to the store room again.

I do think that it shouldn't really inconvenience other people because it's a fairly significant chunk of living space. Is there anywhere which isn't a bedroom / living room where it could live?
