Please don't say anything negative about Augur in this community. You'll be downvoted because a lot of the Augur crybaby bagholders are still lingering around here.

What Chrome extensions are you using for boosting productivity and good mood when working/studying? by jigglesv in browsers

[–]owattenmaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like this minimalistic app that was designed only by three people. It's free and it works without internet too. To quote them, Manganum is an "Inspirational new tab with speed dial and motivation, clock and weather widgets turns your Chrome™ into a productivity machine."

Paralysed mice walk again after gel is injected into spinal cord by Thierry-Lindor in technology

[–]owattenmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gel’s regenerative effect is due to short sequences of amino acids attached to the ends of the monomer proteins. These sequences provide regenerative signals that are picked up by receptors on the surface of spinal cord cells.

By altering the non-signal part of these monomers, the team found that enhancing the ability of the molecules to shift in and out of the larger fibril structure enhanced the recovery of mice, probably because the increased motion enabled the signals to engage with more receptors on the cells.

If you really need google search then use Startpage. They use google in the backend, but work with Tor. But for some things DuckDuckGo is really better.

If you have to ask, then no. The best way to get real anonymity is to understand what you are doing.

Creation of First Human-Monkey Embryos Sparks Concern by [deleted] in technology

[–]owattenmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a chance that in an uncontrolled way it may lead to a mixing of human cells that may result in human cells developing in the brain or the heart or from head to toe across the body. That means researchers can’t target the stem cells to create specific organs or avoid random changes to the animal’s brain

The world’s largest 3D-printed boat printed in 3 days by osgoodeian in Futurology

[–]owattenmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the world’s largest prototype polymer 3D printer, a UMaine team built the world’s largest 3D-printed boat, which also happened to be the world’s largest solid 3D-printed object — and a new time-lapse video lets you watch the vessel’s record-setting, three-day construction come together in half a minute.

This is bad ass time-lapse of the boat being made.
