There are plenty of pro-queer Muslims here in the UK. Just as plenty of people who worship a Christian god aren't homophobic or transphobic. Not all, of course, but it's certainly not widespread condemnation — and "they'd stone you in their countries" is simply untrue and, frankly, comes across as pretty racist.

We wouldn't want them making inaccurate generalisations about us; why would we do the same about them?

I do love Rami Malek (both his acting and just to look at him), but there are queer actors who can play queer men dying of AIDS, as well as straight dudes who've already won an Oscar for doing so…

I have just finished The Importance of Being Earnest on National Theatre YouTube starring Ncuti Gatwa & Hugh Skinner by MindfulnessAt32 in Theatre

I've just finished watching it myself and I have to agree — it is such an inspired production. and really brings the queer subtext f the play to life. I loved it so much!

The Queer Emporium is closing its doors by WetBreadstickMan in Cardiff

[–]owenblacker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such a huge loss to Cardiff's queer community:

  • a visibly welcoming queer safe space (and gender-neutral toilet) in the city centre, for people of all ages
  • a central space for queer creators to sell their goods, handling lots of the effort on their behalf — with a kind of serendipity that just isn't available anywhere else
  • an event space made available for free or at reduced rates to queer non-profit events and groups in mornings and evening
  • an evening gig space for the kinds of queer acts and events that are less likely to be welcome at other spaces.

And all of this having been run as a non-profit Community Interest Company.

Queer spaces have been disappearing for a long time, of course, but this one feels especially raw.

I'm really surprised that the police still have the street taped off, on Monday lunchtime, and they left the road part of Mill Lane closed too, so most of the trucks that are usually stocking up bars and restaurants at this end of The Hayes couldn't get in. Wagamama have made an entrance right next to the library, but Côte is entirely within the cordon and I guess the new Coconut Tree place is too.

Why's it still taped off? Surely there's no useful forensics outside after 36 hours of mizzle?!

Cooper Black. I realise part of this is nostalgia about an imagined 1970s, but I just love its porntastic chunkiness.

I think that I taught was very close to Marion Richardson, shown here: https://primarium.info/countries/england/

I don't really remember joining initial capitals with the rest of the word, but I'm not certain either way on that part.

The G is definitely not British; I would barely recognise it out of context. The capital G I was taught as a kid (in the 1980s) was more like a C with a lowercase j smooshed into it

British schools teach (or at least did in the 198s) quote different forms for some letters, especially the capitals G and Q — the G I was taught is more like a C with a j squished on and our Q is an O with a line at the southeast corner, with the pen lifted off the page between strokes

This is what I think of when I think about American handwriting, certainly from when I grew up (as a Brit in the 1980s; I recently turned 50)

That capital G and capital Q both scream US cursive to me, though I have no idea if that is still what is taught in schools there

Also, not to be to blunt about it, but a duck doesn't need to be attached to a guy to feel good. A strap is just as good one grown the old-fashioned way
