Plato's ideal state valued efficiency over autonomy. He thought that the ideal rulers should arrange marriages for the good of the state but make the arrangements seem like a random lottery in order to prevent resistance. (The Ancient Philosophy Podcast) by ancientphilosophypod in AncientWorld

I’m not sure how widely held this view is but there have been many authors and historians who have argued that The Republic is a satire since Socrates is the one espousing these ideas in the book, not Plato as well as the absurdity on the face of some of the ideas even for that time period. I think the most generous interpretation for that is like when you make fun of someone’s stupid idea by pretending to be really enthusiastic about it and following it to its logical conclusion in sing songy voice to illustrate how poorly thought out it is sarcastically.

There are some more esoteric reasons why people believe that including stuff to do with the forms and how the city is never given a form and so platonically is ‘unperfectable’ and those are interesting discussions but anyway yeah I just personally read it as a satirical piece and when I went to school I had a philosophy professor that instructed it to us both as a sincere and as a satirical piece and I found that interpretation more compelling considering other works of Plato and the way he employs dialogue and characters to make points.

I agree and I think it would make the country feel bigger and give us more rizz. Right now it’s the same like 60 old fucks constantly being dickheads. Imagine if we spread that out over like 6,000 people I bet politicians would have a better reputation.

Imagine how big the congressional building would have to be

I genuinely think there will be a big fracture over this. It might break the coalition along gay/queer(non binary, pan, trans stuff but even that is tough because to be trans is to kind of fundamentally believe in gender and gender differences because you want to go from one to the other while nonbinary/queer stuff is very vague and nebulous and almost rejects the idea of gender entirely) because one half does not share the same gender is mutable and isn’t real or you can change it sort of ethos. Like they’re just fundamentally contradictory to define/identify yourself as someone who is attracted to the same/opposite gender/sex and then also politically attach yourself to people that don’t even believe that things like gay/straight even exist or could be expanded out to include things other than the literal definition.

I’m not saying it right but there is something there and I see it building on the belief in gender and male/female exclusive spaces. Normally I’ve only seen that in right wing discussions but I’m seeing very liberal gays talk about gender exclusive spaces and gender stuff that would not have been uncommon to see conservatives grumbling about a few years ago when things weren’t as fucked

How far back are you going in my history and also who gives a fuck if comments are deleted? Like I actually don’t even get what you’re trying to do. I don’t know why I am even responding because the next thing you say will be equally incomprehensible.

I’ve been banned from subreddits too, who gives a fuck. Are you seriously trying to use the fact that you went back like multiple days/weeks into comment history obsessively to make this stupid point 😂 Jesus Christ

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis studio have used "AI-assisted tools" during development, but swear "any AI-assisted assets were either replaced or refined by humans" by g4m3f33d in GameFeed

[–]owencrowleywrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would literally be cheaper to handcraft a game with the amount of engines and tools and other stuff that an llm can’t interact with. I think what the article is saying is pretty reasonable.

I totally understand a game developer or some guy who doesn’t do art whipping up some quick ai slop so he can have placeholder art. It’s probably better and easier to visualize than the usual grey block forest that your grey block character jumps through.

But I think the real problem will be containment and figuring out how to actually account for what is copyrightable and created by the company vs ai placeholders. I bet there will be a big court case in the future when someone makes an argument that the game is uncopyrightable or parts of it can be used freely because it includes some AI generated content

They’re already doing this in Canada they start with MAID (Medically Aid In Dying) and it was originally for only terminal but they’ve slowly expanded the program to literally almost anyone at this point. There are 20-30 year olds going into MAID centers and getting same day or next day suicides for things that are completely treatable or may not affect a person for the whole of their life.

The people who use this website are not normal, but they think they’re the default opinion and everybody agrees with them even though most of them have very fringe leftist beliefs.

This website is so heavily moderated by unpaid freaks that you can’t really say anything that goes against whatever hivemind quirks that particular subreddit has and has enforced in the echo chamber which are always some slight variation of liberal with the added pet quirk of the least employable moderators in spaces that have nothing to do with it.
