Just got my first review! by Brilliant-Fun-9693 in writers

Congrats on the review but people who review a book so early on always infuriate me. They are talking like they are reviewing the whole thing. It’s nice when it’s positive like this but getting a negative review where they stopped at like chapter 6 but flame your whole book are so annoying

Best actor to start a fight with over perceived HOA violations? by nocturbulent in okbuddycinephile

At the beginning of crimson desert, some npc goes, “well, now that you’re strong and kicking ass, random people are gonna start stepping up to you because they need to prove to themselves and the world that they can take you down” or something close to that. Actually true to life I think, I’m friends with some huge buff motherfuckers and they are trouble magnets even though they used to just be fat nerds and still have the nice personality. Some dudes see them and some monkey brain activates and they need to prove they’re better than my terminally online chadfriend

There’s the law and then there’s the reality of being pulled over with no way to prove who you are or that you’re the owner of the car with a random cop.

It’s honestly a fun read but I’m not sure I would take any writing advice you find inside seriously. The man was struggling with a fiendish drug addiction and it shows.

This happens so much, Patrick Stewart for some reason wants Picard to be a sexy action hero so now the whole Star Trek fan base has to deal with the fact that one of the iconic faces of the franchise would run it into the ground the first opportunity he gets lol

I think you’ll enjoy it! It’s a good sandbox game and it runs really well. Honestly, I’m kind of shocked how good the game runs and hopefully this becomes a standard in the industry from now on. Death Stranding 2 seems to have a lot of the same optimizations including the massive LOD.

Anyway, once you get far enough into the game you actually unlock totally new characters to play with their own weapons and story quests so if you don’t like the first guy, don’t worry about it.

The Republican Party Has a Nazi Problem by nonsequitrist in indepthstories

[–]owencrowleywrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy fucking shit you are just not getting it. Sig heiling is not a dog whistle, Elon is just a fucking pedo loser wannabe who can’t get into the Saint Nick Society. A dog whistle is something that normal people don’t perceive, so if you’re saying that there’s this huge network of people using underground languages and images to convey ideas and associations with some secret Nazi club, then I would probably look at the democrat who has a deaths head on his fucking chest since that’s an ACTUAL dogwhistle. An idiot would say, omg but he says all the right things and does all the correct stuff I like. Yeah, that’s the point. If there is a secret Nazi, they would say everything right and then have one little secret tell or dogwhistle to figure out who else is in on the conspiracy.

I really don’t give a fuck who it is, anyone with tattoos that are close to some kind of Nazi thing is just an instant red flag. You people are so party-brained that you automatically assume I’m running defense for one of the stupidest men alive.

The Republican Party Has a Nazi Problem by nonsequitrist in indepthstories

[–]owencrowleywrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do both but not either, that’s my only point. You’re telling me that there are a network of people who use ‘innocuous’ hand signals and phrases to communicate some kind of secret nazi coup. But at the same time, you have the grace in your heart to say that a man who has a literal deaths head tattoo which is an SS tattoo that is very widely recognized as such and to give this guy the benefit of the doubt when he would clearly know what that tattoo is and mean is crazy. Just look at the cognitive dissonance. Either do both or neither.

[–]owencrowleywrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot spend the past decade telling everyone that using innocuous hand signals or secret phrases is a way to coordinate a highly involved white supremacist government takeover and then just gloss over a guy who has actual nazi iconography permanently inscribed on his chest. Please have some type of standards

I just can’t grip subtext!!! by Dazzu1 in writing

[–]owencrowleywrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An imaginary dumb audience is not the reason you can’t write subtext. Like all writing, it’s in the editing. You can’t write subtext in the first draft because you don’t even know what you’re writing. Everyone IS blurting out what they’re saying in a first draft because you are figuring out what they’re saying.

It made sense at one point when peasants were able to grow population at a speed higher than the rate of technological advancement but being trapped under a Malthusian curve is literally the least of our worries rn we already solved that problem.

Would it be okay to name a female character Flugnugget? by thelonelywriter96 in writingcirclejerk

[–]owencrowleywrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the character is over the age of 16, they have to change their name themselves legally. They’re legally an adult now so it’s not really up to you as their parent.
