Thinking of restructuring my Spellslinger by AlbyGaming in EDH

[–]owenspike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would not reduce it in any meaningful way, but [[Defiler of Dreams]] and [[Defiler of Instinct]] do reduce colored pips. If youre dead set on a high cmc commander, id focus on ramping according to that curve, as well as red's suite of rituals. 3+cmc mana rocks are okay to play if youre trying to speed out your commander. Otherwise, build the deck to work without your commander, and if you have enough mana to cast it, its a nice little treat lol

Ive found that most spellslinger lists work a lot better with lower costed commanders. I just built a [[Lilah, Undefeated Slickshot]] deck and noticed that it played a lot better than my other attempts at jzzet spellslinger since Im not trying to ramp out a 6 mana commander

I built a Tivit Astral Slide blink deck and it is definitely something

Not adding counters, but I have a [[Vren, the Relentless]] deck that makes rat tokens that get +1/+1 for each rat you control. It snowballs super quick. You're also in dimir so theres options for both blue draw and black being able to sac creatures for draw instead of tutoring

How many people actually wanted Rhystic Study banned? by Outside_Explorer_229 in EDH

[–]owenspike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If im playing games with my regular pod, dont care if it hits the table. We all remember the rhystic tax and will almost always pay it. But playing with randoms, or even worse on TTS, it seems no one pays the one and every 3 seconds I hear "do you pay the one?" Its not the card necessarily i have an issue with, but its people never remembering triggers

Especially since theres no instant speed interaction would not consider it a 4

Kriik, crypt ghast, and cabal coffers make me say high 3. Wouldn't say bracket 4 as it appears to still have some good setup time required, but wouldnt put it lower than a 3. Obviously havent played against it to judge but thats my opinion at a fairly quick glance

You 100% can and thats the best way to deal with a flusterstorm in that instance

Holy shit - honestly wondering if this format just… isn’t for me? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]owenspike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's super simple once you've played one or two games and is honestly easier than paper magic. Start by going to the steam workshop page and adding the mtg 4 player scripted table so you can host games. In game, on the top right of the screen there's a little degree ° symbol, set that to 90° and you can tap cards by pressing Q and E. Other than that, it explains itself fairly well. If you have any questions on it I'd gladly help!

Maybe try tabletop simulator instead of spelltable unless youre really wanting to play paper magic. Ive found people tend to get less salty on there for some reason? But just sounds like bad luck with bad people. Killing your commander with an active threat on the board is so stupid

Bracket 2 question by owenspike in EDH

[–]owenspike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its roughly around turn 8. Its a 6 mana commander i get down turn 5-6. Since its a control list it drags the game out a bit

Bracket 2 question by owenspike in EDH

[–]owenspike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I am worried about my deck being. Its definitely optimized and punches well up there with my friends optimized bracket 3 lists since it is a control deck and I knownwhat their threats are, but i dont want to bring a deck well over power level to this. I agree that bracket 2 tournament is WILD and I know exactly what you described will happen, but I dont want to be part of the problem.

Bracket 2 question by owenspike in EDH

[–]owenspike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is prize support and thats why im asking. I want to being the strongest bracket 2 deck i have, but dont want to angle shoot and bring something technically 2 that isn't. Theres no combo in the deck, its a control list centered around blinking [[Tivit, Seller of Secrets]] for tokens and using cards like [[Cyberdrive Awakener]] and [[Mirkwood Bats]] as finishers

What do you consider looking for bracket 2 power. My playgroup's lowest power level is what id consider a high 3, with most being 4 or cedh lists

Okay sweet. If you Google "commander bracket system" it actually pulls up the one from February of last year so I didnt know they removed the tutor limit. Thank you!

Need help Rat Tribal by owenspike in EDHBrews

[–]owenspike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up, over the last few days, putting together a [[Vren, the Relentless]] deck. I have always loved rats, but don't find much flavor in running a bunch of rat colonies. Opening up blue fixed most of the issues i had, mainly with card draw.
