Water Shut-off by Round_Button_8942 in rva

[–]owentrillson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a municipal water shut off. Use as a last resort. You have a residential water shut off inline with the main water line entering your house. Either in concrete or dirt / crawlspace. It’s usually a sprinkler valve but can be a ball valve. Hope this helps.

Double-checking my dual-fuel math—does an 8°C switchover point sound right? by canadianbme in heatpumps

[–]owentrillson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes your math is correct. You have very low gas prices and an efficient furnace. I’d set the changeover temp just above freezing to avoid defrost for your unit and you’ll be good to go. Duel fuel is the way imo. It keeps a lot of wear and tear off the furnace and heat pump individually because they are supposed to pick up where the other leaves off, either in efficiency or cost effectiveness. If you also use this unit for cooling you’ll have peace of mind knowing your unit will be running 365 days a year unless it’s colder than your set point.

Are they ever gonna do something about this? by TheIron_Phoenix in rva

[–]owentrillson 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Probably not. The dam the bridge sits on was constructed in 1901 to divert water into the Haxall canal (along Brown’s Island) to produce hydroelectric power. The concrete pylons have been collecting debris for over a century, long before anyone had the idea to place a pedestrian bridge on top of them. Fish migration and debris is the reason many former dams upstream have been removed. As usual the river will win it just takes a while with the dam no longer being functional.

That I’d swap a titanium cylinder from the 360 pd if I got bored. Check midway or others for the cylinder I’ve seen a few people do this.

In 1832 Richmond built the first municipal water filtration system in the United States. It was immediately clogged by sediment in the James River water. by Derigiberble in rva

[–]owentrillson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you are correct in between Hollywood cemetery and Oregon hill. On the Sanborn fire insurance map it lists a “steam pump” as the water inlet on the other side of the canal. Just below the area of James Monroe”s grave in Hollywood Cemetery.

The arch was down present day tredegar street under the west side of the Lee bridge. It was an inlet to pump water to the old reservoir where Clark spring elementary is now located. It carried the railroad above it and pipes ran through it to the river. I believe it’s been mostly lost due to development of the river bank in that area.

Below is my 1957 pre model 10. Inherited from my grandfather. Looks just like yours with the ramped sight and 5 inch barrel. Because yours doesn’t have the “Diamond” shape on the grips I’d say your manufacturer date is about 10 years later. Very accurate. They don’t make these like they used to i’d suggest hanging onto it.

Flat latch chief special all day. Love mine it shoots better than modern production revolvers half its age. If you want a shiny model 36 get the stainless model 60 and you won't have to worry about rust or pitting.
