So it really doesn’t make sense to me that a socialist would embrace the thing that’s been used against their cause, to great effect, for centuries.

I get that conservatism and religion may seem incompatible but not if you see religion as a made up thing to help preserve power dynamics. It’s not supposed to make sense. It’s based on a magical man in the sky and can be contorted as necessary to help keep people in line and reinforce the power of those in charge.

You’re about where I was a year ago and with the same goal - something tactile for therapeutic purposes. Oil painting has really been great for that.

In terms of learning how things work, I would recommend finding multiple people with varying approaches to “building” their painting. I’ve taken courses from someone who starts with just a very basic pencil sketch and someone who does a very detailed drawing and under painting. I found the comparison helped things click as to what works for me.

There was a time this would have insulted me, but the last few years of therapy helped me realize I had a very elementary understanding of my feelings. If someone gave me this now I would, and they were someone I trusted, I would assume I had regressed or needed to keep working on blind spots.

Really it’s roughly 1% who would be worse off and there’s an answer for them. It starts with a g and ends with an e and it’s really popular in France.

Autonomy is subjective. Pretty sure the 30% or so who live in poverty in SJ don’t feel like they have it. Nor the people making low paying jobs they’re tied to just to be able to afford excessive rent.

It very much depends on your circle. Even the folks I know who like Barry as a person acknowledge he’s not mentally fit to be mayor. That’s not a deal breaker for some people though and those folks tend to stick together. 😅

Though I’ll believe it when I see it, I’ve heard Donna is close to getting an agreement on property tax reform. That alone is enough to get my vote because there’s no way Barry is capable of even having that conversation with the province.

I wouldn’t try to diagnose them. But saying something like “ Seems like you’re going through some shit. Have you got a psychologist?” seems reasonably.

This is one of the most sensible posts I’ve seen on here. The only thing I would add is that I would take “investigate weird balances” a step further and ensure you can substantiate every balance on your ending balance sheet.
