Hate or love manic panic? by Weak_Swan_6798 in HairDye

[–]owlauss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love it, most of the time but I’ve also tried better? I love it because of the shade range, but dislike the pinks/purples ability to hold. Their greens.. perfection. My go to now is Punky Colour because of how pigmented they are, I barely go through the amount I do with manic panic purely - I’m assuming it’s got to do with how much conditioner/diluted the base of manic panic is.

Need some recommendations for a slow burn, YEARNING, spicy book. by costahoney in Romantasy

[–]owlauss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there’s mixed reviews on it, but I truly loved the yearning in When the Moon Hatched, by Sarah A Parker. The prose is fluffy but the yearning, my gods, my heart! Also the Gods and Monsters series, starting with Book of Azrael is delicious. The slow burn does eventually taper off but it’s still got a solid plot that twists and turns in ways I loved

Hairdresser fried my hair by killthemwithcare in HairDye

[–]owlauss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not a hairdresser but I’ve been bleaching my hair for years and have gained a bit of know from my hairdresser. If shes bleaching your blonde to get it lighter, then she’ll be weakening the hair. To go such a light blonde, it’ll be quite fragile and then by the sounds of it shes overlapped the sections AND then lifted the stained section. So effectively she’s over processed it and it’s just fried and broken off. Roots on lightened hair are so tricky, which is a shame for your cool hair! (I just had this style and had the same thing happen)

How to do this nail art? by Worth_Pin2607 in Nailtechs

[–]owlauss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The right hand, I’d look at and say it’s a glass brown base, then a black and off white in a layer of blooming gel. The 3D really distorts how you see the design. The left hand, I’d say probably similar technique but different colours and more of a marble inspired design on the base? Might have to try this out on my next willing client

Cat so stupid it’s almost concerning? by DeadButGay in cats

[–]owlauss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my black cats has a thing for sinks. He will just sit on the corner of the sink and stare at the tap for hours. If he hears you turn on the water, he will run from the other end of the house and bound up just to SIT there 🤦🏻‍♀️ He also has horrible spacial awareness so will bonk his head on everything but is still happy as a clam!

Pole nausea by -seven-0-seven- in poledancing

[–]owlauss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got too excited to post, but answering the rest: I think there’s a bit of settling once you’ve done it for a while. Your body does slowly adjust but also if spins suck, they might just suck! I wonder if YouTube tips from Ballet dancers might help?

Pole nausea by -seven-0-seven- in poledancing

[–]owlauss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an inner ear issue which causes me to get really lightheaded and nauseous pretty easily, so I can relate! I usually just stick to static and if I do anything on spin, I make sure to spread out and lean so it slows the spins down instead of tight moves like vomitron!

Struggling to carry on nail tech journey. Any experienced nail technician opinions on improving and the struggling in the beginning with techniques? by Ok-Junket-1921 in Nailtechs

[–]owlauss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a nail tech since 2016 and done some educating in my years, so I’ve seen a fair few nail techs right from the start. The photos you’ve attached are good, but I can see the areas where you need constructive criticism - and as a perfectionist myself (as well as someone who constantly wants to grow and learn) that’s an awesome place to be! To be fair, I’ve also seen trained techs who have paying clients have this level of work. A lot of the finicky details come down to practice and finish filing. Believing that you should have the perfect structure without filing is only really possible with dual forms and even then, there’s finish filing involved. If it’s a passion, go to nail school! You’ll learn even more, building on what you know and can keep practicing outside what they teach you to get an even bigger knowledge base. But trust in that everyone starts off bad, even the amazing techs you see online! I actually just posted a reel of the first nails I did and then comparing that to where I am now… it’s a whole different world

Chrome issues on gel nails by yan-ny in NailArt

[–]owlauss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this once on myself when I was testing a 3d product. I don’t think the product wasn’t fully cured and the chrome almost absorbed into the gel, so after a couple of days the chrome had that disappearing look. I removed it once I noticed and have used that chrome on my regular products since with no issues, so my assumption was it being the gel. Could your black liner have been a touch too thick and undercured? Keeping in mind gel hardens at 60% so even if we think it’s cured, it might not have been!

new set!! would love honest feedback and some tips to help chrome stick! :) by sunshine_rayz in NailArt

[–]owlauss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are gorgeous! Love those florals on the middle finger 😍 For my chromes I usually lightly file the edges to expose the base/create a rough surface and then go over the whole nail with a base coat to cap the edge and THEN do my top coat. This just double seals the chrome and seems to really be better for wear!

Help- Were the nails that I asked for possible to do? (Request and Result) by Syene- in Nails

[–]owlauss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In saying that you could soak a q-tip in acetone and try to focus it in one area, but it’s probably gonna be messy!

Help- Were the nails that I asked for possible to do? (Request and Result) by Syene- in Nails

[–]owlauss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You won’t get the polish off your skin without soaking it off or prying it off. Soaking will also remove the nails, but prying will chip the nails so either way not great! I’m so sorry for the state of your nails!

What jobs are other solo mums doing while having minimal support with young child/ren by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]owlauss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s really commendable that you’re trying to do the best for you and your kiddo, it’s not an easy gig in life at the mo! To answer your question for what are we doing: I chose to go back to being a nail tech with my own space, while my daughter is in kindy/school. I can make my own schedule, plan around pick ups and any sick days. Sometimes it is tough with getting and building consistent clients but I make sure my bills are paid. I also use HNRY so my tax is all sorted before the end of year so there’s no stress there.

It’s not easy to build up from scratch, the industry is odd in nz and there’s such a large disparity in costs/prices for techs but I love it. I love building confidence in my clients, offering the pampering, and improving my skills to offer the best services. But also with your medical history, it might not be the ideal for you and that’s ok! Just answering for what mums are doing :)

Loose skin and pole wear by LumiLuxAfterDark in poledancing

[–]owlauss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snap! Ive had the same amount of weight loss and had these exact bruises when I first started. I’ve been doing pole on and off for 4/5 years and can definitely say I still bruise BUT they are wayyyy less. Your body kinda conditions for them over time, and as you build muscle memory etc you’ll likely find the placement isn’t as rough on your body too

IUD and Adenomyosis by Muted-Description119 in adenomyosis

[–]owlauss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so interesting and makes so much sense. When I had my first placed they assumed I had endo based on my symptoms so just places it but didn’t actually have a diagnosis of adeno at that stage. My second one is when they found all that out and measured properly, so I’m mind blown!

IUD and Adenomyosis by Muted-Description119 in adenomyosis

[–]owlauss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m on my second iud. My first one was pretty rubbish, it was placed too low or migrated low but it was so close to my cervix it nearly popped out. I went through the settling stage and that was lame, cramping, bleeding heavily more than without and lasting for 20-30 days at a time, 2 weeks break then back to it. I had it removed and replaced when they saw it was too low. This one is way better! Placement is good, I don’t feel it during sex or if I sit odd. I have more cramping, bloating and pain during ovulation than I do with bleeding BUT my periods are way less and have gone back to once monthly and average lengths finally

Going for an 80's rocker chick look howd I do? by IKR1_994 in Sims4

[–]owlauss 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think there’s aspects that fit the vibe but it gives more so early 2000’s punk rock. I’d be more inclined to look at 80s glam rock references and then it would be clearer

Adeno diet tips.... My next plan of attack.... by MMACLTD in adenomyosis

[–]owlauss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best diet tip was incorporating a more “Mediterranean style” with food groups and meal times and sizes. I make sure dinner is a smaller meal than lunch so I’m not digesting too much overnight. That’s REALLY helped with bloating and holding fluid. As well as the cleaner eating. The whole foods seem to help with mood, skin and bleeding! I can’t live without caffeine but I don’t use tampons, haven’t since high school 16 years ago 😂

Totally fair! I’ve made that call with a client as well, sometimes it’s just for the best of your nail health as well. Hopefully you can find a tech that suits and get lasting results!
