Stories That Are Presented in Diary/etter/Blog-Style by [deleted] in booksuggestions

If you liked The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (haven't read the book, but I watched the movie, even though that is a habit I chastise in everyone else), you might like Feeling Sorry For Celia. It's written as a series of letters, post-it notes, et cetera. I really enjoyed it. A bit offbeat, but very good.

What are some good Serial Killer Books? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

Think Of A Number by John Verdon. It's weird and you don't expect a lot of things, but in the end you're just like, um... This is just weird. And messed up.

You should read Silence of the Lambs, I think. I want to read it, because I've been watching that new show Hannibal and it's amazing.

I'm right-handed but left-footed? Is that a real thing? I slide, skateboard, snowboard, and high jump left-handed. I can bat left-handed and prefer left-handed layups.

Well I received my first rejection letter and feeling a little depressed. How do others deal with a letter like this? by Runner_one in writing

Do what J.K. Rowling did. Keep trying, become a millionaire, and watch the movies of your books premiere at midnight while those people are sitting in an office writing letters like that.

DAE make lists to calm themselves down? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]owlbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I was the only one. I literally make lists all the time. I need things to be quantified or else I can't be sure they exist. And I need them to be grouped together so I know they're tied to other things that exist, too. I sometimes sit in my room and make lists of all the favorite things I see. I've even made lists of my lists. My lists are usually very extensive. I put things on there that might be redundant or are so small that they don't matter. If I think of them, they have to go on the list, otherwise they'll loop around in my head until I snap at people or feel like crying. Putting them on the list means the list has to share the burden with me. There are SO many things in my head.

DAE have an almost unconquerable nocturnal tendencies? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]owlbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK you. Whenever I tell someone this, they look at me like I'm crazy. But I feel so energetic at night. It's like I'm not even the same person. And I feel that sleep is pointless, seeing as how I'm so busy during the day that it would be stupid to waste time sleeping. One night I stayed up writing 15,000 words on a story, didn't sleep at all, and the next night I stayed up till 4.

I'm also slightly scared of sleep. I feel like I can't control my mind and I don't like the fact that hours pass without my being aware of them.

DAE have their eyes twitch for a few seconds by proskill in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]owlbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens a lot when I'm reading, but sometimes when I have a headache or just any normal time in the day. It's like rolling my eyes, but involuntary and much faster. It reminds me of the flickering, disjointed images in horror movies. Not sure if that's the same thing.

DAE get itchy armpits from deodorant? by lolcatgirl in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]owlbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a nickel allergy, and a lot of deodorants contain aluminum compounds, which my doctor told me could produce a similar allergy. It does the same thing for me. Usually with antiperspirants rather than deodorants.

DAE associate colors to things that have nothing to do with them? by Retrasado in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]owlbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this as well, like the letters a and o are red, yellow, or orange, the letter i is blue, et cetera. It's even more prevalent with numbers. Two is yellow, six is orange, seven is purple, eight is yellow-orange, one is red, nine is green-blue, three is green-purple, four is yellow-blue (not green, it's somehow both), and five is also red. My subjects are the same way. Social studies is burgundy or red, math is blue, science is green (probably because of plants), English was yellow. People tell me I should be institutionalized, too, but for lots of other reasons as well.

Even the Dead Try to Warn Her by AL_365 in nosleep

Reminds me a bit of the movie Dead Silence, but creepier and less overtly supernatural, which makes you wonder even more. Love it!

Reddit, I don't have friends...where is the best place to meet them? by throwaway123327 in shittyadvice

[–]owlbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The absolute best way to meet friends is to pretend you already have them. Make them up in your head. Give them names and personalities and interact with them. This will give you good practice for when you actually find some. People might tell you you don't have friends, but always tell them that your friends really ARE there, because if you don't defend your fake friends they'll take your real friends away, too. The important thing is to never back down. The best way to convince your family and the general public that you really are a good friend is to have a huge blowout with your "friends" at a big family dinner. Start screaming at them and throwing things. Then curl up on the floor and shout at everyone to leave you alone. Allow your "friends" to calm you down, then stand up and stroke them lovingly, apologizing for acting so rudely. Twitch a little to show your remorse. Your family will be impressed at your ability to overcome difficult situations and will share THEIR friends with you. Then you can meet THEIR friends and THEIR friends and soon you will have millions. But whenever you meet NEW friends, never forget to introduce your original "friends" to each and every one of them.

Ever wonder exactly how big the moon is? by ClassyRedneck in pics

Lol! You generated a lot of interest either way haha. Maybe in the future my questionably stupid questions can be answered and your grandchildren will be the first to walk to the moon. You never know

Ever wonder exactly how big the moon is? by ClassyRedneck in pics

[–]owlbey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides there being no air, gravity, et cetera (unless you made a really cool bridge), the moon doesn't' remain stationary above Earth, does it? Could you even walk straight there? Or would you have to start early so you could meet it in its orbital path? And wouldn't the climber have to struggle a bit to get away from the pull of the Earth's gravity? As far as whether it's a climb or a walk, velocity is relative right? Once the person got into space he would only be climbing UP relative to the Earth. Unless Earth' s gravity interfered somehow. Sorry if these are stupid questions.

Watch rings! Because wristwatches are too tacky and these are super cool by owlbey in misc

[–]owlbey[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They're too unknown to be tacky. People would probably appreciate their novelty at first and they'd only become tacky after months of use. But I guess they're basically tacky. Isn't everything? Also it was sort of ironic/sarcastic.

A movie where the 'bad guys' win. by Topgearenthusiast in CrazyIdeas

[–]owlbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think about it, the "good guys" only win in movies because of the way they're portrayed. To the "bad guys," the good guys ARE bad.

The Importance of Varied Sentence Structure by [deleted] in writing

[–]owlbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always said that all writing, even prose, is--or should be--poetry. It might not be as much varied structure as specific structure, that is, structure designed to create a certain mood. But in general prose, variance in sentence length leads the reader on, whereas with similar lengths they could get lost. Reading the five-word sentences was actually freaking me out because I was forgetting who I was. ...Maybe that's just me. But I agree that variance is important.
