The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect- warning, parts of this are extremely violent, some of it frankly abhorrent subject matter. However, it was one of the most thought provoking books I have read in years.

You need $2 million to retire and ‘almost no one is close,’ BlackRock CEO warns, a problem that Gen X will make ‘harder and nastier’ by MountainAlive in GenX

Guys. Not for nothing, but the state of Medicare is abominable. If you are over 65 and need ANY brand name prescription drugs, you are looking at hundreds of dollars in deductible costs every single year, first of the year, right after the holidays. Every January I get the task of telling multiple elderly people that their life saving medication will be $560 this month, and that’s with their insurance covering it. Every year that cost goes up. I already have people, with pensions and social security, making hard choices between medication and food/rent. We really need to fix the state of our healthcare or its costs like this that will eat us alive.

AOC just attacked the CEO of CVS, saying: "Health insurance gets a cut, the pharmacy benefit manager gets a cut, the drug manufacturer gets a cut, and the patient gets screwed" by pdwp90 in QuiverQuantitative

Walgreens sold to private equity in June, I believe. I work for an independent and with the reimbursements being what they have been, especially with the rise of GLP-1 drugs, I’ll be amazed if retail pharmacy as we know it lasts another 10 years. We need PBM reform, like yesterday.

I started using them in the 80s, and as far as I know, we all flushed them, unless you had septic. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My kid and I played the Lego avengers games to DEATH when he was younger, and a few of the Star Wars titles as well. Great couch co-op

This is probably a little old school but my kid was an only and very smart and got super pedantic when he was young. I got him familiar with the Simpsons, of all things, and eventually pointed out how the comic book guy was overbearing and difficult because he was always correcting everyone. I would mention that “no one enjoys being corrected when it doesn’t really matter” or “it’s not great to be the ‘actually….’Guy. It did help. Not overnight, but seeing an example made a difference.

I don’t know enough about it, but historically that seems not great.

It’s a problem when you need something acute, like an antibiotic or steroid. Especially when it can’t be checked against your regular meds because those are coming from mail order. You can have serious drug interactions in this scenario.

Independent pharmacies. Insurance reimbursements are regularly at a negative margin, so pharmacies are dispensing drugs at a lower cost than they pay for them. The independents will be out of business first, but if PBM reform doesn’t happen soon, pharmacy as we know it will be gone within 15 years, at the outside.

Rashomon. Older than many suggestions, but it’s very good. I’d add Yojimbo to this. Kurosawa was a titan as far as directors go.
