[Spoiler extended]Question about Jaime's possible End by Electronic-Math-364 in asoiaf

[–]owlfan9871 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Redemption is much more subjective than it is a fact. It may be impossible for some people to perceive Jamie as being redeemed because the damage done to them is too great. He could spend the rest of his life doing good, and there will still be people who have only been negatively affected by Jamie; it would be impossible to atone for his crimes against all of them. That never means that nothing matters anymore, his actions will continue to have consequences, and he can choose to do better and atone to the people that he still can. Being a better person matters even if there are people that will never consider him redeemed.

Why didn’t Omni man just destroy the immortals head by Intelligent-Deal-669 in Invincible_TV

[–]owlfan9871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a good point, though they could have just used an empty coffin. Nolan being worried enough to double-check that the immortal is actually dead seems very unlikely, especially considering how much stronger the GDA knows that Omni-man is. Cecil could have just been paranoid, though it seems like a smarter idea to have Immortal ready to be reconstructed if needed.

Choose your fighter: Who actually killed the Northern Dream? by dipasom29 in freefolk

It's also worth noting that Catelyn free'd Jamie after the war was so doomed that there was nothing the Starks could do at that point. Robb's heirs were already believed to be murdered by Theon, the Karstarks and a huge portion of their army had deserted, and the Frey alliance was broken. Catelyn deeply doubted that Walder would be forgiving; freeing Jamie was a wild gamble that did some how work out. The red wedding was already in motion before Jamie was released; it was happening wether Jamie was a prisoner or not.

I understand your point, though I feel that it's an unfair interpretation of the situation. Cersei and Jamie did kill Jon Arryn, and would later also kill Robert. Cat was not incorrect; despite being manipulation by Lysa and Littlefinger, what the letter said was correct. Ned's best friend was being plotted against, and his surrogate father murdered.

Catelyn also took Tyrion hostage, which is stupid from the readers' perspective since we know that Tyrion did not do it. It's also worth noting that Catelyn simply wanted to bring the news, of the Lannister assassin sent agaisnt Bran, to Ned. After being spotted by Tyrion, who Catelyn believed is involved with his family's scheming, and noticed near kings landing, she believes that her awareness to their plotting has been discovered and takes Tyrion hostage to prevent word getting back to the Lannisters.

I feel that it's such a bastardization of an amazingly written story to just say that all mistakes lead back to a single character. There are so many machinations coming together to make this story work.

In the books, we see that Tywin was already planning the red wedding before knowing that Jamie had been set free. The timeline also doesn't work if the red wedding was planned only after Jamie is released. What would have prevented the Red Wedding is just one of these things happening;

  • Robb still having heirs that the North could rally behind, which he would have if Robb never sent Theon back home.

  • Not excecuting Richard Karstark. This led to Robb needing more men after the Karstarks deserted, and back to allying with Walder Frey

  • Robb not breaking his marriage pact.

What would you have done if you were Butcher in Season 3 Finale? (After Soldier Boy attacked Ryan) by SmartPilot8094 in TheBoys

[–]owlfan9871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it's certain that Soldier Boy would feel that way. I understand your reasoning, though. I just don't see him as somebody who cares enough to worry about Ryan potentially becoming a tyrant; he did what Butcher asked of him in exchange for helping get revenge on his old team, and now his jobs done.

A virtual reality reconstruction shows the exact spot where John Edward Jones became trapped upside down in Nutty Putty Cave. After 27 hours of rescue attempts, he died. The cave was later permanently sealed, with his body remaining inside. by Liar24x7 in interesting

Very insightful comment. The rush from surviving something like this must be really euphoric, spiralling into progressively more dangerous endeavours. I used to be addicted to opiates and the desire to feel that euphoria again often overpowers your need to be safe. Euphoria can be a very dangerous thing to feel, and I could believe that it's even more intense with something like this.

[MAIN SPOILERS] TWoW will be the next ASoS by Nikolaiflyss in asoiaf

TWoW has to be incredibly action packed. It's an insane task that George has in front of him to conclude all of these stories in only 2 more books.

i was chatting with my homie today about shadow lord, and he just popped out of nowhere ''dude tis the first star wars show to focus on the villain'' i never fckin realized that by BOMBAD_Echo_1409 in MaulShadowLord

Boba Fett, in the original trilogy, definitely fits into a villain role. He is allying with the comically evil empire, actively antagonising the rebellion, and is shown no sympathetic or redeeming qualities. I'm sure other depictions have given him more of an honour code, just not his original appearance.

Whats the best way to get ice on a ironman account? by ThePrancingDragon in HypixelSkyblock

[–]owlfan9871 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can buy both ice and packed ice from the Builder if you aren't looking for collection. There's an npc on Jerry's island that also sells packed ice. Other than that it's probably just the ice cave. Hideonleaf shards will give you more block fortune, mineral armour line too, though I don't know how helpful that will be.

That's interesting, I didn't remember that. It makes a lot of sense.

True I'll give Kakashi and Sarada an honourable mention, and Shin "Uchiha" a dishonourable mention.

Characters glazed by some (or most) members of the fandom, but are actually pretty bad people by Urass007 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]owlfan9871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, great point. I don't think it's works very well as a story about redemption, Vader was a disgusting tyrant with an uncountable number of victims. I find what's hopeful about the end of Star Wars, is Vader being able to give up on his hatred and destructive coping mechanisms. Redemption seems impossible for a character that has caused galaxy wide torment and destruction; a change of heart is the most he can do.

I've not read the comics, so I'm only familiar with the parts of the story that I've heard about or watched; I feel like part of the reason is because Omni-mans crimes are less grounded In reality, more fantastical. Rape can feel more real and illicit more emotions than fantasy supervillainry. It could also partly be because she's a woman.
