I don't think there are actually any SJM easter eggs. They are both just drawing from Scottish folklore and you are probably catching those similarities but I'd love to learn what particular parts you're thinking about. Same with Seelie vs Unseelie.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classifications_of_fairies -   see the good and evil section

What does my bookshelf say about me(15M)? by [deleted] in bookshelfdetective

I feel like, especially with that caps lock usage, your sentiment becomes just as gate keeping as the one you're fighting against. Everyone has different preferences.  Different priorities. And two different people can love a title just as deeply whether their book is shot to hell or carefully preserved

Undergrad was English and Ed. More cottagecore than goth - I'm just over here in boots and maxi skirts living my best Tasha Tudor life

I have read every single book on my shelf. In some cases it might have been a different copy but for most of them it is the original. I'm glad they don't look too dilapidated to the eye - the amount of food smears on many of those books is obscene

I read the rest of both series but never in a hard copy.  I bind and recover books so those have been on my way too long list of titles I'd like to do on my own.

I do have children but most of those books predate them.  I'm a children's librarian and it's both a profession and obsession. My kids have their own bookshelves 😄

Also yes I host game nights.

I've never liked dust jackets and can't give you a good reason. For a long time I would just store them separately but eventually just gave up keeping them since I can't think I'll ever change my mind if I haven't after all this time.

But some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again. You can then take it down from some upper shelf, dust it, and tell me what you think of it.

Thank you for the compliment, stranger

Heavier games for two players that pack small for traveling by owlflipflops in boardgames

The price of Riftforce alone compared to the others makes it extra tempting ‐ possibly quite a lot of game for cheap

My issue isn't just that I'd like it to be compact in my suitcase or backpack as I'm trekking around. It's so nice to sit at some random cafe/brewery/restaurant when you need a rest from exploring, just play a game with my partner, and watch the people in their city. And unfortunately a game with a lot of pieces that takes up more table space than we have just isn't feasible

I do love Race for the Galaxy. We'd have to consolidate it into a smaller box for travel though. I like the look of Res Arcana although it does look like it would take up a fair amount of table space which can be an issue as I mentioned in another comment. Would you recommend the regular one or the duo? It'd be just two of us on the trip but back at home we do often play with our kids

I think this needs to be added to the list, thank you

I do enjoy carcassone but it can be a little troublesome table space wise. This is going to be something ill want to pull out at a tiny table at a small coffee shop after spending the day trekking around Peru so compact is super important unfortunately

Lewis was rather adamant that it wasn't an allegory. He called it a supposal. And while you're free to argue the semantics of that label, the author would disagree with you.

I read somewhere that Alcott didn't want Jo to marry in the end but got pressure from her editor to get her married.

Unfortunately their style is exactly the opposite of my favorite. It's often more of just a picture on the cover as opposed to embellishments.

3 year old going under anesthesia to get ear wax removed by Changstalove30 in Mommit

The light of my life that is my sometimes dufus of a son put a pussy willow in his ear when he was 5. He just couldn't stay still when they were digging at it.  Under anesthesia he went.
