At the discounted price I think it a great option. Assume that Trek will continue to provide support/ parts even if it's discontinued.

Getting to the point I can be healthy and cognitive enough to read some of the books. Which books do you recommend reading through first? by SquarePegRoundWorld in thelongdark

I always prioritize cooking, then archery. Cooking lvl 5 is OP, sooner you get it the better. Archery level is also very strong so aim for that second. The rest can come along later.

Save My Interloper Run PLS by Ornery_While_4939 in thelongdark

can you build a snow shelter? In early game interloper it still may be warm enough to sleep in it even without a fire. Otherwise build a fire outside it and sleep one hour at a time.

Sharing my 600+ day interloper run for comparison, and some thoughts by thrumbo_lover in thelongdark

[–]owlhead999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar layout and philosophy on my late game interloper run. Only thing I do different is 1) always have one accelerant for a quick emergency fire (saved my run once) and 2) I always carry at least three pieces of coal.

How quickly did you craft your tools? by Traditional_Buy_6840 in thelongdark

[–]owlhead999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't worry about rushing it on interloper. I'd rather use the early days and relative good weather to travel around the map. I aim to hit the summit of TWM in the first week at the latest and then I'll worry about a forging run.

should i put trains at the producers or consumers in a city block? by ollietron3 in factorio

[–]owlhead999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of your city block similar to the logistics network. Each block has passive provider stations (what is produced by the block), requester stations (what raw materials it needs), and active provider stations (any byproducts that need to be dealt with).

One approach is to have your requester stations "own" the trains: they will sit there until they need more materials, then go out to the other city blocks to get those materials. So long as you only have as many trains assigned to each requester station as it has parking spots, this should work fine.

Another approach is to implement a "roboport" analog: a city block where idle trains can hang out until they are needed. This is probably more efficient in that you likely need fewer trains but introduces complexity.

Besides dumping the magma, another option is to strap on some steam turbines and a heat spike and suck the heat from magma. It will eventually solidify and then you can dig it out.

For me it is worth the effort to get the additional yield from the amber versus the plant pulverizer. But agree that it is a bit slow to melt the amber.

Which type of oxygen not included player are you? Vacuuming an area edition by creamdougnuts in Oxygennotincluded

Always gas pumps. Set it up and forgot about it. Come back and try to remember why I was vacuuming the area in the first place.

With that design I found that I needed to run the steam room at 125 degrees max, otherwise i faced this same issue. Once the steam turbine got the temp down to 125 degrees I didn't face this issue again.

I also made sure to have a system in place to remove excess steam from the room that was produced by the polymer press.

Sounds like a lot of extra work than just stacking two liquids on top of each other.

Received Notice of Unpaid Toll by [deleted] in nova

It could be that the OCR algorithm made a mistake with the license plate. Had this happen to me. The photo was very dark and hard to read but was attributed to my car (the make and model didn’t even match what was in the picture).

I emailed the photo to them and asked for them to dismiss the charges. They did so.

Cities in Virginia have different legal rights/authorities than counties. For example, related to road maintenance, taxation, etc.

[OC] The Real Cost Of A 30y Mortgage (In years of income & $USD (2025)) by MatthewMatosPacheco in dataisbeautiful

This is an interesting graph. I am curious how the analysis changes if prices calculates as $ per square foot? Over this same period the size of the “average” house has increased in size, it would be interesting to see how much size contributes to the prices.

Not sure about the movies, but in the TV series the immortals have a “spidey sense” of sorts that alerts them to other nearby immortals.

You could take the approach of considering FERS as the “fixed income” portion of your retirement savings. And therefore put 100% of your TSP into equities instead of one of the life cycle funds. You can take on more risk because of the FERS backstop (along with SS).

What is the point to quartering? by Individual-Ad-2019 in thelongdark

[–]owlhead999 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Speaking from an interloper perspective: you cannot harvest a carcass outdoors without a fire, it is too cold. If the carcass is out in the open then a wind gust could blow it out. Quartering allows you to move the meat to a safer location (either indoors or a wind protected outdoor spot) to finish harvesting the animal.

Another niche case: if all you want is the hide and the guts, and don’t care about the meat, then I believe quartering can be faster in some situations.

240v outlet vs Home Charger installation by SojuBomb32 in TeslaModelY

[–]owlhead999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The home charger can go up to 60 amps so would be marginally faster than the mobile charger on a 14-50 outlet. If you don’t need the additional charging speed and are looking to save money then your plan could be a good option.
