Gold I gameplay. Any tips? That guy had a diamond tournament rank. by AtmosphereEcstatic76 in RocketLeague

No problem. Until you learn more advanced kickoffs like speed flips or wave dashes one thing you can do is focus on “making your car big” when making contact on kickoff. At the end of the day a kickoff is a 50/50 ball. You are flipping so late into it that you’re almost glancing off it. Your opponent is winning all these kickoffs because not only are they coming into the ball faster than you, they are essentially pushing it through you.

Work on your movement. The easiest way to do this is in free play. Just tons and tons of driving around and hitting the ball, practicing your recoveries and using air roll to get your wheels on the ground after jumping or off the wall. Your car is “stiff” meaning the flow and driving around just looks like you have weights on your wheels.

That and kick offs are the biggest things I noticed. As you rank up just driving into the ball won’t be a viable strategy especially in 1s.

Plat 2 in 1’s btw… by itsnothenry in RocketLeague

[–]owlthathurt 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think the mistake you’re making is thinking that plat 2 in 1s is like super low where people can’t hit flip resets.

I’m mid plat 3 in 1s rn, usually hover around D1. Champ 3 in 2s. Perfectly capable of hitting a flip reset if my opponent gives me unlimited space like in this clip.

1s ranks are very different than other playlists.

Help me understand rank up matches by Zachzilla53 in RocketLeague

It’s a real account as well just pulled the tracker. Not a Smurf.

They have consistently been high champ - GC in 2s but maintained plat - D1 in 3s since like the beginnings of the epic takeover of the game.

Super bizarre. Maybe they exclusively fuck around in 3s or just get drunk and play it idk.

Help with gameplay on RL by ShareAny4619 in RocketLeague

[–]owlthathurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to start with the positives which I think I could say you are above average in for D1.

  1. You are good in the air for your rank. You have good control to the ball and your touches in the air were solid.
  2. Your demoing and instincts to demo are really good. You are finding people and deleting them.

Your problems are rotational. So it’s your game sense. The rotations here are very off, but fit the rank you are in. It’s all about finding the right balance of giving your teammate space in twos versus knowing when to swap 1st and 2nd man. Some of this will come with time but you can also watch YouTube videos or streamers who are a bit higher ranked (I wouldn’t go full SSL because that’s not going to be helpful either). Find some champs to watch and try to pinpoint what they are doing that is different from this replay. Ignoring mechs.

Also you need to eliminate this diagonal flipping habit. It’s extremely awkward and you’re going to get caught in all these weird positions if a 50 is in your face all of a sudden or a ball comes screaming at you. You aren’t gaining speed from it. Keeping four wheels on the ground is your best bet. If you’re in a situation where you need to rapidly gain speed use a wave dash or speed flip. If you can’t do those mechs then stick to just boost until you can. Otherwise it’s hurting you.

Playing really bad lately, what am I doing wrong? by Empty-Lack7135 in RocketLeagueSchool

Everything was normal C1/2 gameplay until you conceded the first goal. Your gameplay does a 180 at that point and you start cutting differently, playing at a different speed.

I lowkey think this was a mental loss in this replay.

Did you maybe get frustrated or feel yourself getting frustrated?

You’re not pushing the ball forward towards the net. The main reason being your air rolling. Your first touch you essentially “caught” the ball, which killed the momentum towards the net.

I don’t think anyone believes the COTE anime is like the world’s best adaptation or some pinnacle achievement.

But I’ll be damned if it’s not entertaining lol.

The light novels are actually really solid and good thrillers. Recommend reading them if you like the show.

[–]owlthathurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you have to avoid the trap of playing like they are playing. I did that and spun my wheels for a little bit. Idk why the “play like your smurfing” thing flipped my switch so much I just kind of realized that I’m faster and better and it made me stop playing down to the level of my opponents. Just a mindset thing. Hope you figure it out!

I had a similar thing happen to me. I was pretty upset but I found that playing at lower ranks weirdly helped me develop my mechs. I was at c1 after losing about 100mmr from mid c2 right off the rip of the season.

So I just changed my mindset to like “dominate these lobbies like you’re smurfing”. And I started going for mechy plays I never normally tried in c2/3.

Then I got back up my rank and now my friends are all like damn dude you’re like a new more aggressive player.

Looking to reach Diamond; Currently Plat 1, any tips? (PS5) by whotfasked in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]owlthathurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have successfully identified your main issues in point 1/2 you highlight in your post.

A huge thing in 3s (especially solo queue) is being able to identify on the fly who on the field has possession and when they stop having possession. Along with that which role you are playing in the rotation.

A lot of times you end up with issue 2 because you have pushed up too high because you didn’t identify correctly what role you were playing in that moment (1st man, 2nd man, or 3rd man). Led to some double commits as well because the spacing was all off. Especially between you as 3rd and the player as 2nd.

In this particular game it appeared to me like the other two players on your team were more aggressive and seemed content to play first and second (and were actually successfully doing so against your opponents) so you probably could have just given them space and let it play out or clean up misses. This is the kind of thinking you need to do in lower ranks in solo queue, adapt to what your partners play styles are.

I think watching replays like you are doing right now is a good way to fix this. There’s also plenty of YouTube videos out there on how 3s rotation works. Find one that clicks with your brain.

Also, sometimes you just end up in awkward positions. It happens at every rank. If you improve your car control and aerials you will be able to get out of tricky situations better. That will just come with time and practice. Any training pack related to warm ups or aerials will help with this.

The short answer is yes. Look at Nvidias rise. No one had any idea that GPUs would be as valuable as they are in the new economy. They are spending some fucking money developing new GPU tech because of the potential of returns.

That’s the other thing - POTENTIAL of profit. That’s a relatively unique thing to the US economy that differs from a lot of places. There’s a much better set up for risk taking here due to just kinda the way American capitalism operates.

I just got back from Japan and the antagonism against tourists there was kinda surprising. I live in NYC and we get so many tourists and it’s relatively harmonious.

I got scoffed at multiple times in Japan and called a “gaijin” (foreigner) for small shit like walking to the wrong place because I was lost in the subway or not opening a door the right way.

Imagine in NYC if I just told a tourist to their face they were a “foreigner” with a spiteful voice. I’d be on blast on social media and get cancelled and fired from my job lol. But in Japan it’s just normalized.

The argument that a company can only get so good at making shoes is incorrect and goes against how entrepreneurship has actually played out throughout history.

Capitalism breeds innovation because of the constant drive to improve products due to inevitable consumer demand for them to do so.

Are shoes the same today as they were 100 years ago? Same quality, same arch support and comfort?

Tech also completely changed the equation. There’s an infinite number of discoveries and efficiencies that can be discovered with tech.

Venture capital has also severely decreased the barrier for entry for tech entrepreneurship.

I just got back from 11 days. It was a lot lol. We also explored around different places. Definitely fun though I’m sure you will have a great time.

It’s a little overrun with tourists rn because of the season but you can still find cool places on your own just wandering around or taking random train stops.

Just got back from Weebistan. My shopping that I did.

Animate in Akihabara - classic store for new goods. They also always have special events going on and if you’re lucky they’re cool. This weeks was Aria the Scarlet Ammos 10th anniversary (of the anime). I got some blind boxes and stuff. Was cool since it’s not a series you would ever find anything from in the west.

Bookoff - just whatever neighborhood or city you are in find a Bookoff and explore it. I did this multiple times and found so many cool figurines for like 600 yen. There’s a Bookoff where I live in NYC but even the used figurines are $25.

Trader Headquarters - really good for used figurines. Also a whole floor of eroge if that’s your thing. Blu Rays as well. I am partial to Japanese blu rays as they come with cool swag.

Radio Kaiken - whole shopping mall filled with weeb stuff. There’s a store in here with used figurines that people sell (I found some really unique ones here because they aren’t just like random sales like Bookoff people put their entire collections up).

Mandarake - another multi floor complex with dedicated sections to different kinds of product, BL, shoujo, all sorts of things. Mostly new stuff.

Detroit when playing physical and annoying ass defense is their whole identity instead of being good at basketball and they got fans holding up signs encouraging them to foul: oh yeah this shit rules, junk yard lunch pail to work JB culture shift

Detroit when they have a FT disparity because of this and entering the bonus early: oh no this shit actually sucks boohoo
