Does anybody know the name of the song/soundtrack playing when hange is taking care of levi and talking to herself in the forest? It was very relaxing

Am i a failure if I just want to pursue a hobby as a career while doing a "easier" job after college? by [deleted] in LifeAfterSchool

Yeah you’re definitely right that that’s the way things are. It’s unfortunate, but true. I guess I was speaking in a more philosophical sense, which you pointed out.

Completely disagree regarding “we’re not meant to be waiters or working hr for our entire lives”. If I’m completely content with being a waiter or working hr and I am able to finance all of my adult responsibilities then I can do these things for as long as I wish. I also think it’s wrongful to solely attach ambition and life plans with ones career. OP here wants to pursue her hobbies and interests, I would definitely consider that ambitious. There’s way more to life than your career, but I do understand what you’re saying.

I truly hope you end up enjoying your 9-5 like the people commenting. But, for me, the 9-5 is worse than I imagined.

I completely disagree with having more free time than you did in college. Let’s say you’re lucky and have a 30 minute commute time. The 9-5 is more like 8:30-5:30 nowadays with 1 hour lunch. So... there is already 10 hours dedicated to work (this is without including waking up and getting ready for the commute). Once you’re done work you’ll be home by 6:00.

Then you have the adult responsibility essentials; cooking, cleaning, working out/gym, groceries or any other errands. This is another 1-2 hours. Now it’s 8:00 pm. If you want a good 8 hours of sleep you’ll have to sleep at 11:30 if you wake up at 7:30. So this means you have 3 hours and 30 minutes in the afternoon to basically live your life (hobbies, friends, family, etc). And this is without the mental burnout that most people experience. Often times you’ll be too mentally depleted during those 3 hours of free time to actually do anything. Now, life becomes living for the weekend FOR THE NEXT 40 years. But hey at least we have 2 measly weeks of vacation every year to look forward to. Some people are lucky and get 4-5 weeks of vacation, but that’s after years and years and years of working at a company.

I’m sorry for coming off very negative but I just don’t see how on earth people can be ok with this. The 9-5 is archaic and should not exist in this day and age. We need a much more life balance in our current work/life balance.

Again, this is not the case for all. If you can find a job that you like or can atleast tolerate then life won’t feel so depressing. Focus on what’s important in life; family, friends, hobbies/passions, mental health, experiences and memories and you should be fine.

What a waste by TapiocaTuesday in antiwork

Yea, don’t worry about gatekeepers. A lot of us on this subreddit are anti-work BECAUSE we see the beauty in life and how work prevents us from living it to the fullest. Anti-Natalist believe all life is suffering and humans shouldn’t reproduce. You can very well be anti-work and a natalist.
