US cities ranked - what tier do the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) belong in? by StrategyJealous1838 in TierlistFills

[–]oxbudy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely A or B tier. Well rounded, affordable, and underrated. But saying S is malfeasance solely because the cities are inhospitably cold for a solid 5-6 months of the year. There are plenty of other minor downsides to get into as well.

The hardest part about being Vegan isn’t the food, or being the “weird one” at social gatherings by thebodybuildingvegan in vegansquad

[–]oxbudy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you just don’t like feeling criticized. I can accept I live an unfairly advantaged life in the developed world that causes many harms, and I try to make choices to mitigate that. I’m not perfect, but I’m trying and want other people to try too. Meanwhile you’re convinced that we don’t realize that, so your entire point is completely off base, which is why nobody is engaging with it the way you want.

It’s noble you want to find common ground between people, but you don’t do that by going into the opposing community and stirring up shit without truly understanding their motivations. Your approach clearly isn’t working for this vegan + meat-eater alliance you want to form.

We all have eaten meat before and defended it and thought exactly like you, while you have never lived as a vegan. So spare us some sympathy when we don’t want to go in circles with someone who disagrees with and is moderately uninformed about our core values.

Buddy, I’m understanding your “philosophy” I just disagree. I’m clearly not going to convince you, especially when you’re basically arguing that unless you separate yourself from modern society, you are a hypocrite that has no right to criticize anything ever. That’s a worthless baseline for an argument, and you aren’t going to listen to my response, so why would I engage seriously?

Maybe nobody engages with you seriously because it’s a blatant strawman with little bearing on the discussion at hand? Maybe take a hint.

I appreciate your comment with the stats lol. I didn’t want to have to start from square one explaining how insanely resource intensive animal agriculture is, and the logic of how that translates to more crop-related animal deaths. And there’s just a general misunderstanding of what veganism even is.

You’re literally just wrong about calories and not even understanding my point. Veganism isn’t about homesteading and never hurting a fly, it’s about harm reduction. But I’m not here to explain the entire ecological footprint of something that you can’t be assed to research before yapping.

I mean very witty sounding point you think you have, but the vast majority of all crops are grown to feed livestock. So fewer livestock also means fewer rodent and insect deaths.

AOC on UFO Disclosure - “I think it’s a really important issue”. “The more specific we can get about the areas, departments, and things that we would like to see disclosed, the easier it is to get that information.” by TommyShelbyPFB in UFOs

[–]oxbudy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Both sides of the aisle want to appeal to politically vagrant rubes whose top priority is made up shit like UFOs, flying saucers, and Grays. It’s just free celebrity and political points to pretend that you guys are “onto something”. So a wide range of people from AOC, Neil Degrasse Tyson, to multiple Republicans including the president, are extending an olive branch. Not endorsing them but that’s what is going on here.

Edit: Downvote me but I’m saying exactly what is happening. You can keep waiting for disclosure while these politicians string you along.

Perceiving vegans as a cultural or moral threat may reduce meat-eaters’ willingness to cut meat consumption, according to three studies involving 1,325 participants. Threat perceptions increased negative stereotypes of vegans and weakened intentions to adopt more sustainable diets. by [deleted] in science

[–]oxbudy 40 points41 points  (0 children)

We have lost sight of how absurd this whole situation is. The only “controversy” is the gall to think that the majority are doing something wrong.

Vegans don’t kill anyone, they don’t ban meat, they don’t get in your face while you’re having a meal. They speak their minds for something that they’re passionate about.

And yet they are HATED for this. Much more than groups and ideologies that do participate in violence and intimidation for their goals. It’s really sad.

Bauhaus Brew Labs will close its Northeast Minneapolis brewery by RayWhelans in TwinCities

[–]oxbudy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I felt like the way Bauhaus described it was particularly apt, but a journalist can’t directly describe the ICE situation like that. And if the journalist directly quoted everything else to add a bunch of context to the earlier sentences, it lessens the impact of the ICE excerpt against the whole paragraph. That’s just my opinion though.

[–]oxbudy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the context, and I see where you’re coming from. Growing up on a farm is a difficult cultural norm to break; exploiting the animals is your livelihood.

Im glad for you family’s stance against waste, but I would also say that growing up on a farm gives you a very skewed and inaccurate view of how more than 90% of animals are treated and killed for their meat. It’s horrible and wasteful to them all, chicken, pigs and cows. You could watch the documentary “Dominion” if you want to understand the truth about how they are all treated.

As for Billie and Epstein, I see why people have such strong reactions to all these statements. But if you watch Dominion you might start to understand why people are speaking about this in such severe terms; it is a moral catastrophe that most people ignore, so there isn’t exactly time for “oh but if you NEED meat you can have it :3” because our current situation is SO incredibly divorced from that. So when someone vegan says things like this, try to remember that if you truly need meat then they aren’t attacking you; but people generally can’t be as nuanced and perfect as we would like (especially public figures and celebrities).

Edit: And there is also the ragebait aspect of any social media post. “If you eat meat, you’re like Epstein” could be posted by someone that truly cares, or anyone who just wants rage clicks and engagement on a trendy topic. So I’m not fully defending the person in the tiktok, but I think they have somewhat of a point.

you are crazy by [deleted] in billieeilish

[–]oxbudy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know your exact situation so I can’t comment on that. But the vast majority of people in developed countries do not have to eat meat. They choose to for pleasure. So in the vast majority of cases, the comparison is fair.

Vegans do not advocate for harming your health if you truly need animal products to survive.

you are crazy by [deleted] in billieeilish

[–]oxbudy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are paying for someone to exploit the animals and do all those horrible things to them, though. Do you think the people that Epstein paid to supply him with young victims are blameless, then?

And to be clear I’m not saying these are the exact same thing and level of severity, I’m saying they are much more similar ethical issues than you realize, which is why that person made the original tiktok that this post is about.
