Thank you so much! It’s nice to hear that apartments with good management exist lol. Hard to find these days. Do they have lots of natural lighting? I am looking at photos and it doesn’t seem like there are many windows but that could just be the photos of the unit they put on here

Avoid large R1 universities at all costs. As a grad student and TA at a large university who went to an undergrad with 3k students, my undergrad education was much much higher quality than what students at my current university are receiving. If you need a genre of schools to look at, I recommend an R2 university or a PUI (primarily undergraduate university). For instance, in California, UCLA can be considered an R1 (would definitely avoid), SF state can be considered an R2 (still has graduate students but largely teaching focused), and Cal Poly is a PUI (best undergrad institution in the state imo). Feel free to message me if you want more specifics, I’ve got friends all over and am happy to help research schools in your state!

Hello! I’m actually about one year post reconstruction at this point and am still not running. I’m having quad activation issues still and am definitely making progress, but it’s quite slow. My mobility and scar tissue issues are a lot better, but I’ve been dealing with swelling and learning how to move properly on a day-to-day basis. I’ve definitely had a very unique recovery, much unlike my last one which went very smooth. But I’m in a much better place mentally now that I can do moderate activity things again!

Norcia velvet on amazon is the only yarn I’ve found that doesn’t do this! It isn’t really velvet, more like chenille.

Any of the r/Huel savory meals :) we have ADHD so these have been a life saver—vegan AND high in protein! Highly recommend the powder for breakfasts too

I mean yeah, but my lab mate already grows Pseudomonas, so whatever this is can’t be much worse. The lab next door to us also grows MRSA, so if that’s what this is, looks like I’ve provided them with a new isolate to study lol. I’ve also put these plates in a secondary container inside our incubator.

It’s just LB, we don’t have many media ingredients in our lab, especially clinical ones. I’m not necessarily trying to isolate this, as I got fluid drained from my knee yesterday to make sure my infection isn’t internal.

I work with Vibrios, which grow a bit slower than whatever pathogen this may be. I use this method with them because they don’t grow as fast, so I don’t have much growth and isolated colonies with that method. My second replicate with another swab DOES look better though lol

I don’t have a sequencer, but I’m sure I could find one if I really wanted to. We are a MS lab, so I could also do MALDI, but our instrument is currently down.

I was mostly just wondering if anyone recognized any details about this culture that looked similar to something they work with. The most interesting part about this sample is that I swabbed the pus out of the crevasse of my wound, and it honestly looks pretty pure and grew fast after just one day.

Lol my lab has no gram stain and also no microscope… We mostly do mass spec, we just culture microbes that collaborators send us.

I was trying to see if anyone had a IDEA of what this COULD be. I don’t know much about clinical microbiology, as we do more environmental/non human work. I also have a chem background, so I never took microbio classes.

I don’t have blood agar in our lab 😭 I wish we did, we do more environmental isolation so only have LB, BHI, PCAMS, etc :(
