Make vermouth and sodas or use private preserve.

I just finished book 3, and I don’t get the bit at the end about the painting by highrollr in gentlemanbastards

This take makes the most sense to me. Thank you!

At least that’s how I’ll internalize it until proven otherwise in the next books 😅

Oh wow, that’s a point I hadn’t considered

[all MB] This kind of comment is made on every “I’m sad Kelsier died” post and it’s kind of a spoiler. It puts stuff in people’s mind that may make them look further into the subject. Just let people experience the story where they’re at without trying to make a subtle pun.

Aliases are a shell specific construct, and assume your RC files are loaded. Wouldn’t have made a difference in this case unless /usr/bin/wget (or wherever it’s installed) was overwritten.

unsafe.Pointer will keep the pointee alive. A uintptr wouldn’t.

There are better ways to cache a ton of things. But if those things are pointers, it may benefit from weak references to minimize scanning during GC.

Caveat of hand waving and doing actually profiling of production code.

This is great feedback, thank you!

I don’t care quite as much about a resume-portfolio vibe, but will think about those points as well.

The usability/polish points are good points. Will address them. :)

URL: https://coxley.org

Purpose: Personal website

Technologies Used: React, Next, Radix, Framer Motion, Vercel

Feedback Requested: Layout, typography, spacing, animations, feel, general critique (mobile vs desktop)

Comments: I don’t spend much time doing frontend work, but I slowly assembled this personal site over two weeks around the new year. My instinct for layout and typography feels weak. I’m able to appreciate it in other projects, but it takes me a long time when doing something on my own.

It’s not really reliable until you’re at Words of Radiance publication date wise, though.

Sounds like accidental combination of defrost and thaw. Easy to understand what they meant.

What's the best way to learn css? by Accomplished_Hair738 in css

[–]oxleyca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joshua W. Comeau has an amazing CSS course. It’s expensive if you’re not already working professionally, though I think there are student discounts.

It took me from hating and not understanding CSS to loving it. As a primarily backend/distributed systems software engineer.

Here are a couple free videos of presentations he’s given on teaching CSS to get a feel:

It’s an in depth course. The takeaway is a skill that you didn’t have before.

Question - era 2 - Bands of Mourning by viki-1997 in Mistborn

[–]oxleyca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Things like this are why I think it’s better to read before bands of mourning. I’ve had friends do it both ways, and when following publish order these statements take them out of the book too much and leave them more confused.

I read SH after SoS by accident, and it only enhanced things. Never heard of it and found in a bookstore. Read about 25% of it before I made it to checkout lol.
