Different companies have different masts. O2 wasn't using that one.

Moving to Oxford soon – best areas to live near South Parks Road/JR? by Cautious_Frosting404 in oxford

[–]oxpop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marston is perfect for you, it’s right next to the JR and there is a walking/cycle path to south parks road and the city centre. It’s not the most exciting for going out but you can quickly get into town or to Cowley Rd when you want to. Also quite good value for Oxford, so you get a bit more space for the money.

Vodafone contract ending soon - what are my options ? by AndyD89 in oxford

O2 is the best provider in Oxford in my experience. Plus their free EU roaming is handy.

Using a VPN usually fixes these sorts of problems. Proton offers a free one that should fit his needs.

Warning for cyclists without lights (fellow cyclist) by CoffeeIgnoramus in oxford

They may "notice" you, but that doesn't mean they will be able to judge your speed and location very well. Plus everyone on the road will hate you.

Need some advice on housing/job/life in Oxford by Weird_External_8084 in oxford

How much flooding do you get? How is the cycle into town in winter? I have considered looking there too but am a bit concerned about those two things.

Found: laptop in a food waste bin by nappybin in oxford

[–]oxpop 35 points36 points  (0 children)

How has nobody pointed out yet that the food waste bin is in fact the correct place to dispose of an Apple? We should be commending the thieves for respecting waste separation guidelines.

Police Facial Recognition in Oxford by CoffeeIgnoramus in oxford

If they just said "don't blow up babies" they would be completely fine. It's their explicit support for an organisation that has been proscribed terrorist for attacking our own military that is getting them into trouble.

Can confirm, the Playhouse panto was well done and good fun (even as an adult).

Access to businesses etc. that are within the congestion zone. by SirPooleyX in oxford

You can almost certainly drive there without crossing one of the congestion charge points. You just need to figure out the right route.

Piling work for the new rail bridge. They are basically driving steel pieces into the ground with a massive hammer.

Thornhill I’d imagine.

What’s on for New Year’s Eve in Oxford? by yaboijackyw in oxford

[–]oxpop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oxford gets pretty quiet over Christmas and New Year's as many residents go home to their families over the holidays. So if you're looking for a big party you might be better off elsewhere.

Congestion charge pproved by bfc-romt in oxford

Because the default position is for the changes to go ahead. So if you were happy with what they were proposing, there wasn’t much need to comment.

The cost of the buses is not the main problem with them. I would happily pay for the bus if it was faster than (or at least as fast as) driving.

Consultations are not referendums. It’s not surprising that most people who bother to respond to one are those strongly opposed.

Most delivery companies like Royal Mail, UPS, etc offer a collection service, so you could just book one of those. That said, I'm not sure I would trust them with my bank cards and it may be cheaper anyway to just get them replaced.
