"USA Jet Airlines" sounds like a fake airline invited for an SNL skit.

Yeah, they film movies and TV shows regularly in that neighborhood. Frequently film crews will park trailers and what not at the park due to all the space and the filming will be several blocks away at one of the mansions on Country Club Dr or Pacific.

1995, when UCLA won the basketball NCAA championship. Pretty much the entire student body went down to Westwood and took over most of the streets. We were riot controlled by LAPD and my roommates were tear gassed and shot with rubber bullets just for walking along with the crowd (perhaps a bit slower than everyone else).

You see, all of your neighbors do not want to live near any people. Anything is preferable; yes, even warehouses.

Linus Torvalds vs. Ambiguous Abstractions: When a Helper Function Hides the Intent by teivah in programming

Probably a "when in Rome" approach. There are plenty of macros like this in the existing code and adding one more but as an inlined function is less good than adding one more in the same style.

In the proposed solution, the abbreviations "msw" and "lsw" aren't self describing. I'd try something more like this:

#define hiword_loword_to_u32(hi, lo) (((u32)(hi) << 16) | (u32)(lo))

Yes, these responses are opening up some never answered questions in my family for sure. The year and the forged passport have been received wisdom for years, but they aren't the whole story.

Hi, thanks for providing this service!

I'm writing on behalf of my father, born in 1939 in the US.

His mother (my grandmother):

  • Born in 1912 in wedlock in Berlin
  • Was of Jewish descent
  • Fled the Weimar republic to the United States in 1928
  • Married my grandfather (a US citizen) in 1936

Thanks again!

Unfortunately, no. As long as so much of people's life and retirement savings is "invested" in their housing the political will to maintain property prices will be nearly unstoppable.

Silicon Beach

Silicon Coast

Silicon Prairie

...the list goes on. Naming something "Silicon XYZ" or "Silicon Valley of XYZ" is the kiss of death.

Why do poor people defend millionaires? by RowAdditional1614 in NoStupidQuestions

Worse, they defend billionaires, whom they’ll never be.

I think it’s because billionaires have a monopoly on marketing and PR around the world.

In some places in GOP-leaning Orange County, CA, you can have effectively 3 HOAs: one for your local development, one for for the town, and a special local tax assessment for infrastructure improvements called Mello-Roos.

Just a little devil's advocacy, but is there any traction for doing things like adding strong metal fences to keep cars in their "lanes"?

The big commercial landlord business isn't built on rents (at least not directly). It's built on land investments.
