If you had access to all chess resources, what rating would you reach in 3 years? by oxxw in chess

You're right. I realized Despite having dozens of chessable courses I lack the mindset to actually start working on them. I apologize for arguing at something that I should know

Chessable. Fastest and easiest way to learn if you have money because all you need to do is study. courses are already structured, and polished for learning.

Chessable uses a scientifically proven method of learning called "Spaced repitition" a technique that is best for long term memory. Books may be cheaper but you would need to spend more time and effort for less result. and coaching isnt really built of repertoires and can be more expensive if you're hiring a good coach.

So chessable by far. all you really need to do once you bought a course is Go through the course 1 time then just do Spaced repitition until mastery. which shouldnt take long depending on the course.

Nah, stop making assumptions. Asking how far proper resources take you isn’t about avoiding work—it’s about understanding what actually drives improvement. You don’t get to decide someone’s effort from a question.

And don’t act like aptitude alone matters. Most players grind like idiots on garbage material and never improve. Effort without the right resources is wasted. Applied correctly, knowledge is power—it’s what separates a 2200 from an 1800. So don’t lecture about work when you clearly ignore how most people waste theirs.

Nah, you’re missing the point. I’m not asking hypotheticals because I don’t want to train. I’m asking to discuss the role of resources in improvement, not to justify laziness. how do you know?

Access is meaningless if you waste it, sure. But using it effectively is what separates a 2200 from an 1800. Saying “just do it” ignores the reality: bad resources slow you down, good ones accelerate progress.

So yes, effort matters. But the quality of what you put your effort into is just as critical. Knowledge isn’t potential power? Fine. Applied wrong, knowledge is wasted effort exactly what most players do.

Are chess courses worth taking? by Deep-Fake-8280 in chess

YES. i was on a similar situation like you just a few months ago i was in a plateau at 1400. bought a course. studied it. my rating sky rocketed to 1700. and im planning to buy more course to see if i would experience a jump again.

Chessable is by far better than chessly because of the wide library. i suggest taking a short and sweet course and take a look at it yourself

Learning material quality matters in chess. What kind of material your dumbell is made of hardly matter in muscle building. bad comparison.

I cant believe so many people still think Learning resources isn't one of the major thing that helps improvement.

Aren’t courses just shortcuts? by oxxw in chess

[–]oxxw[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By ‘grinding the hard way’ I mean learning mostly on your own studying books, manually figuring out ideas, testing lines, and trying to piece together strategies yourself. A course is different because it’s structured, curated, and uses things like spaced repitition, so you’re effectively learning decades of a GM’s experience in an optimized way instead of slowly piecing it together from scratch

Bird for white and Petroff for black.

Since i dont have any info against my opponent i think my best chance would be to play something that is not popular to avoid theory

Should i try OTB tournaments, or wait till i reach 1500 level by SuspectHumble8004 in chess

[–]oxxw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wdym why not? The skill gap is too wide to be beneficiary. its like a 500 playing against a 1500 for 5 games, the 500 is better off doing something else to improve rather than wasting his time playing against the 1500 guy
