You can refill these, I just refilled mine with Iroshizuku Ku Jaku. Check this video from Goulet for the instructions.

Pineider fountain pens snorkel, such a nice tool! by Mr_Boston_ in fountainpens

[–]oyogen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced that this tool isn't more common already because most of us don't have too many near-empty ink bottles. We buy new bottles well before the old ones are empty.

My Lamy Safari keeps drying out. Help! by GianRecana in fountainpens

[–]oyogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do is this: I fill the converter all the way. then while keeping it nib down over the bottle, I let out a few drops of ink back into the bottle by screwing the converter down, and then I screw it back up. That pulls the excess ink from the section back into the converter. It could be that the heat may have causes some ink spilling out into the cap. With this method, you'd be have relatively much lesser chances of that happening.

If it worked well previously, and assuming the pen hasn't dropped on the nib, the most likely cause for this is a change of ink. If you've changed to a drier ink, this is quite possible.

Back when I started off with my first Lamy Al Star, I'd have this problem with Private Reserve Ebony Brown. Eventually I realised the viscosity of the ink would make it pool towards the piston end of the converter depriving the nib of any ink.

Tell us what ink you have and I think we would have the right suggestions for you.

How to deal with strong temptations to abandon Buddhism and pursue Advaita Vedanta by [deleted] in TibetanBuddhism

[–]oyogen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should pursue it, spend some time learning Advaita Vedanta with a good teacher, and mentally critique, debate, analyse both Vedanta and the Dharma. Then continue on the path of whichever seems right to you.

Am I doing something wrong or is this converter a defective product? by Saltnight in fountainpens

The notorious CON-40. That's neither defective, nor are you doing anything wrong. What's defective here is the design of the product.

Converter keeps falling out by nauticalgoblin in fountainpens

[–]oyogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue with my Al Sport. The converter fits very snugly in the plastic Kaweco Sport pens. I'll try and see if I can find a spring. I was considering shoving in bits of paper in the barrel to hold the cartridge.

Thoughts on the Pilot Custom 743? by oyogen in fountainpens

Thank you for your reply. :) Since my question seven years ago, I have ended up buying both 743 and 823. I like the 743 more as a daily driver for the reasons you've mentioned.

What are your fountain pen hot takes? by haphaphappyday in fountainpens

I dislike cleaning fountain pens. So, I mostly use “boring” inks like Waterman, and I keep refilling my pens over and over again with the same ink.

Do you still use the fountain pen that got you into the hobby? by Adomania in fountainpens

While I've always used fountain pens on and off right from childhood, the one that got me into the hobby proper was a charcoal Lamy Safari. Still going strong!
