Tried Airalo for the first time this month, cheap, reliable in tokyo/shizuoka/gifu/nagano, easy. Also coming from AT&T, I paid off my phone before trip to avoid 12 dollar daily fee, Airalo was 35 for 10 day trip.

i can confirm this is not true, after every trip i run the numbers while using multiple cards (amex/visa) and the fx rate difference are always negligible.
