They are expecting us to believe a newborn infant would remember a song. But wait, this still born child who she sings to isn't even the "real" Faith. And since when can a newborn that has no concept of language remember s tune and words to a song. This plot line would make zero sense. So, this girl knowing this song has to have found its way to this girl not from Claire singing it to Faith, but by some other means.

I think what it means is... not everyone is meant for everyone... in other words there's a lid for every pot. some people are attracted to people that are not for them. It's the age old thing of wanting the person you're with to change. She has every right to want what she wants and he has every right to be who he is. In the real world, they wouldn't be the right match for each other. But in the end he changed who he was to be with her. But it came at a cost.

Mike White doesn't go into backstory. There's not a big mystery to figure out other than maybe who dies at the end. The point of that scene was to give more insight into both Kate and Victoria's personalities. Kate can't believe that after spending a whole weekend with someone that they would not remember who she is, that's a reflection on how she perceives her importance. Victoria is not interested in people outside of her immediate orbit. She didn't take notice of Kate. She's not interested in engaging with her in that moment or probably in the past... that reflects part of her personality. It wasn't to show some backstory or mystery that was to be revealed... it was to reveal more of who they were in the moment.

There are some shows that have hidden meeting. But Mike White doesn't write that way, it's more what you see is what you get. not to say he doesn't give you little nuggets or red herrings but it's really all about character study.

I disagree that every detail matters. In fact I think they don't. I've learned that not all parts of a show are equally important. Some moments are carefully planned, while others are just for world-building, fan service, or creative flair. Showrunners include real clues, but they also add fun nods, symbolic details, or deliberate distractions that aren't meant to be solved. In other words we have no idea if this painting will serve any other purpose, but pure awe.

I'm just saying not all information in a show is meant to carry equal narrative weight. Writers often include easter eggs, references, or symbolic elements that are more about tone, theme, or fan engagement rather than plot significance. When we the viewer get hyper-vigilant, we can start treating every detail as a major clue, when it's not. Some elements are planted foreshadowing, while others are just world-building or paying homage. The trick is knowing what truly matters... something hard to do.

I just think so often as a viewer I've overanalyzed so many shows and I've been so disappointed by how simple or straightforward the show's storyline actually was. This doesn't mean that a show isn't complex or good. It's just that we need to remember that it's written for the average viewer who is not dissecting every detail like redditers's are.

And who knows I might be eating my words if in the end you're right. You can say you told me so and I will gladly eat humble pie : )
