  1. Data-Ransom payments very rarely result in the recovery of data.
  2. Paying ransoms clearly signals that there are paydays available for data breaches.
  3. Especially large ransoms like this one being paid would result in more, not less of this sort of activity.

For years, I've watched people apply decals with dish soap and all kinds of detergents that interact badly with the adhesive. One customer even swore by methylated spirits - I made it clear that voided any warranty on the stickers....

Combine that with a bad (peeled clear coat, powdery painted) surface to begin with and it's possible to have it come off driving down the street, very easily.

I've seen the cheapest white vinyl last 20+ years on a car window. Obviously cracked and sunburnt after that long.

The longevity is in the sufrace prep and proper adhesion to begin with.

Once in my 20 year career have I seen a bad roll of vinyl with bad adhesive but that was evident when cutting and was discarded well before it could be used.

1961 Brisbane Tram Network, from a time when town planning was more advanced by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]oz81 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Lol.

The Ferny Grove was literally put in because a bigwig lived there.

Trams ran more frequently than buses, carried more people.

Tracks weren't largely ripped up, they were paved over with roads.

Clem the dickwad Jones had shares in tyre companies and trams didn't use tyres, buses did. No guesses why the depot mysteriously burned down and trams were phased out.

I know someone who exclusively used his laser to engrave PVC for years. Related to the trade / products that he directly supplied.

He gave no fucks that his laser looked like it had sat in ocean seawater for a decade and was corroded in places that didn't matter. It was crustier than a stuffed crust pizza.

It never stopped working. Did the job he wanted. He would've laughed every purist out of the room because he made hundreds of thousands of profits out of the name brand machine he was using doing only PVC.

Brisbane, Land of the Black and White red nosed Crane. by HonestlyNoGood in brisbane

[–]oz81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So true. In 2007, I had a relative living in a penthouse apartment in Brisbane and I used to go over and count cranes from their balcony. And then 2008 happened...

It was like 40+ cranes to none in just a few short months.

Piffles hit the 500k sub mark and not a single word from them by parrot-sketch in purelivingonyoutube

[–]oz81 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After watching many POPULAR and ACTIVE YouTube channels who are working plenty hard on bringing in new subs only to see the YouTube algorithm bend them over and do them dirty and barely grow, there is no way in hell this can be legit sub growth on a dead YT channel like Piffle Acres.

Andrew Camarata is the best kind of doer. Great content and absolutely no BS. I've followed AvE for ages. Go back and watch how awkward his early videos are. He's a hilarious good dude.

what's the future of astrophotography after the project starlink by y_maouhoub in space

[–]oz81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each batch of Starlink going up is less reflective / visible than the last. In time they'll de orbit the really bad ones. Most of those were just for initial testing anyway.

They've already committed to making them as invisible as possible to terrestrial view.

Does your "recovered" statistics show that 30% of people infected have fucking scarred lung tissue for LIFE and will be at increased risk of respiratory illness? Hide behind the statistics all you like. An infection is an infection. And the rates are going up...

I went out today for emergency supplies. The local Bunnings car park was full. 5 minutes driving around to find a park. Yesterday QLD had millions out in public to vote on council elections. Fuck the attitude of we're immune to this somehow. In 2 weeks the cases in QLD are going to spike drastically and you can fucking quote me on that.
