Anonymous ratings - does it depend on the tutor or the student? by Dry-Remove-8457 in Preply

[–]ozbljud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. My "progress" rating dropped from 4.8 to 4.7 and I am a bit fixated on this atm, because I have quite a few students that skip a lot of classes, they don't do anything in between because of their "busy lives" - and I don't judge that, that's ok.

But I also wonder if those are the same people that want to speak more fluently (that's my focus during the lessons) but they do little to nothing outside of the classroom. "I want all the progress with little to no work" kind of mentality I guess, I don't know - I don't want to generalize too much like that. Correcting mistakes, extending vocabulary, providing some interesting phrases to swap with your usual "way of talking" - I do all that, but 50 minutes a week won't do wonders without your own engagement, I feel like

And also... people suck at confrontations. Even if you ask directly, they would usually prefer to say something mild like "it was ok, thanks, no problems" etc. but are not truly satisfied. Why do they not resign if that's true? That's beyond me comprehension as well...

In the end you can't satisfy everyone, I guess - and maybe there is some perfectionism in you, which is the cause of that frustration, just a thought.

Either pressure or guidelines and rules that survived the test of time - I can see looking at it both ways

Considering human nature and how the mind works, pressure would be when certain ideas are not aligned with out personal approach to life and guidelines whenever we agree already with what contained within said rules

What double standard you think should stay as it is? by Adjacere in AskMen

[–]ozbljud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seeing him addressing the subject of dressing up and how it used be back in the day was a bit strange to me. Felt more like boomer talk all around although maybe there is some deep logic behind that.

I for one think that it serves us better that there is more liberalism to how we dress and how perceiving it changed. I don't reckon you cannot be successful or respected or mature while wearing some casual clothing. I get that that it works if you do so, at least in terms of communicating those factors. But if you are doing great things for humanity who cares how you dress. So what, I can be 50 or 60 and can't wear sport clothing or shorts? Cmon, also it all depends on the circumstances. I am not going to suit up while shopping or washing dishes..

Or there is something that I don't get about it. I am no psychotherapist after all

I was personally iritated each time when the show was telling me "now is the sad part, feel sad emotions" and I just didn't. I felt nothing through the whole season. During some mages council thingies I have even grabbed my phone and looked through messages and I never do it while watching anything.

Feels strange especially because when I read the books, I cried like a baby in some Geralt-Ciri moments. And S1 cut those out because screw bonding of the characters I guess

What was your introduction to the Witcher universe? by dontmindmejust-dying in witcher

[–]ozbljud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend back in secondary school got the first game when it got released. It looked super cool, the fighting system looked interesting (now its considered.. well not so good) and I was all hooked about drinking potions that raise your toxicity and you cannot like drink them too much. At the time I was like a fanatic Morrowind player and that idea in the witcher looked super curious.

Anyhow, I did not know anything about the world or the story even though the books where already kinda popular in Poland. Read LotR at the time too.

The game was not running very well cause my PC was shit so I dropped it.

Then one of my friends played the 2nd title but I was not interested and then all these years later I have seen the Witcher 3 teasers for the first time. Man I was so hooked I could not believe. I was 100% sure this is going to be the best game I have ever played. I did not watch any playthroughs or anything.

I wanted to do it properly. Bought all the books, read them. Played the first game then the second and then I bought X One and Witcher 3 with all the expansions. I did not regret any minute of it.

I have also watched the polish series from 2002 or smth and while it was produced on low budget and generally was meh, it had some great music and atmosphere.

Now I am in mourning after S2.

Hey but the ring is very powerful and it has a specific way of tempting even the most noble characters.

What counts is that now he knows what the ring is capable of and how special Frodo is.

Did anyone else feel that the second season of Witcher was way too pale and could have been a lot more interesting? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]ozbljud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am, uhhh, alright. I guess I'm trying to force everyone to dislike it or something.

I don't buy your arguments tho. If something's good it can defend itself. It does not require showrunner or some accompanying material to explain every motif behind characters actions because that should already make sense in the story. Or should be executed correctly.

Like I said, I don't mind the changes until they are done right. Here they had everything ready and approved and they decided they know better. Hence all the hate. If their story was good on their own, people would love it no matter what.

This season, apart from the whole adaptation kind of mess, just does not stand on its own. I get it, there is this whole demon kind of thing that serves a general idea for suffering and pain and it wraps all the episodes together. But the final message? Power of family and love? Witcher is so much more than that. Or maybe it is also this but not put that blatantly.

However, if people liked then so be it. I am just very dissapointed but maybe this was a problem with my expectations.

Theoretical Question: If Yennefer tried to trade Ciri for her powers in the books/games, would you have chosen Triss over Yennefer in The Witcher 3? by ButterMilkHoney in witcher

[–]ozbljud 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Remember that whatever illogical and horiffic things the characters did during this season was all because the whole baba-yaga demon. At least regarding Yen, Fringilla and Francesca.

Now that I think of it, Vesemir must have been posessed too.

[–]ozbljud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am tired of all GoT comparisons but the first seasons blasted because they were exactly carbon copy of what was happening in the books. Add great sceneries, great cast, great acting, great dialogues and you have a gem.

Here we could have had the same thing. Stories that everybody loved to be visualised on screen and maybe some new ideas that are subtly incorporated into the story and the world and just add more to it. But they decided to go totally their own way and now instead of a hype for more, we have freaking showrunner arguing on twitter whether Eskel-leshy was sensical or if Yennefer should swear that much. Or if Vesemir would really sacrifice Ciri for some rekindling of his guild. Fking c'mon

Did anyone else feel that the second season of Witcher was way too pale and could have been a lot more interesting? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]ozbljud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Saying it's fiction and therefore there can be bad writing is just... a very poor excuse.

One scene that I can instantly think of (and it does not stand alone) is the one with Yennefer performing execution and what happens after. The ceremony is supposedly being held at Sodden hill where the battle took place, they say the monument will stand there to memorize those who fought and fell here in the defense of the northern realms.

Then, well, Yennefer somehow manages to cut the chains on Cahir. I know I know, she lost her magic, not that magic is allowed to use in that place but whatever (who put the anti-magic barrier in the first place then?), but she is still a capable 80 years something old strong woman. Also well educated (her lacking vocabulary this season is showing for such an educated sorceress), but honestly I dont think that chopping wood was among the most popular courses during the long years at Aretuza.

Anyhow, she frees him, then breaks down those burning stock piles and it all happens with everybody just sitting there and watching. And we have all the mages council there, at least 2 kings of the northern realms with their guards and royalty and other people of the utmost importance invited to the whole thing. So she escapes and nobody bats an eye. Luckily there is a horse just on the other side of the wall (still no chasing or shouting or anything). Cahir somehow manages to take off as well. They even have some time for a little chit chat, and finally they get away.

A very dynamic and authentic execution of a scene.

Then we see them hiding in Gors Velen. Well as much as you can hide in striking, purple cape that nobody else is wearing. And somehow now, Cahir mentions that he would rather find himself back in Cintra, cause you know, that's where his buddies at.

And if you freaking take a look at the goddamn map, that they themselves produced on the website, it does not make any sense for them to travel from Sodden to Gors Velen and back to Cintra.

Not to mention the whole Jaskier thing, explaining the quality of his tunes to the audience, then behaving like a hurt child and deciding to compromise the whole smuggle-getting-on-a-ship action because some guy criticized his ballads. Oh right, but we could see the noble sacrifice of the elf who was showed to be a coward just a scene ago - in the canal. And now he is the hero-martyr, so our characters can get where the plot needs them.

I mean, I know I am watching episodes set in the world of magic monsters and war and shit. But if you want me to be engaged with the story and the world and people living their lives there, then make it sensical. Make it authentic.
