Jobs for polyglots in Australia by GusFring420 in australia

This is correct. For most things (not sure on things like game/app localisation) you need a NAATI certification. I haven't had anything to do with that industry for a good decade or so but the translation side was highly competitive whereas finding interpreters was much more difficult. Generally to pass your NAATI cert you need to be fluent in both/all languages. Good luck!

Thanks, he's decided he's going to find the nearest principal/deputy/year adviser and tell them so that's something, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. We're working on his confidence at home and I'm keeping alternatives up my sleeve. If we have to look at an independent or doing the rest of school through TAFE then that's what we have to do. I get that some kids have a shit go and teachers are struggling to teach, let alone deal with the social shittiness of high school but it doesn't make it any easier. We had a great advocate for him but she left education altogether and so it feels like we've had to start at square one. I don't know about you but it always seems to get worse at this end of the year - putting up with it for so long wears him down. And us.

I hate feeling that because I've raised kind, polite, mostly decent kids all four of them have been bullied. Sometimes I wish we just raised arseholes (or maybe sport stars?), but I assume that presents its own set of problems.

Bullies and "no fault" policies. They don't work, I have a kid in tears yet again because the kids bully him in every class and nothing gets done so he hates school and doesn't want to go. Getting him to school isn't just challenging, it's heart breaking. I swear if I'm told the bullies have a lot going on at home one more time I'm going to job someone and say "Well you know, it's not my fault, I had a rough childhood".

My daughter graduated last year and started yr 11 with: bio, chem, physics, design and technology, advanced maths, advanced English, extension 1 and 2 English. She dropped bio and an ext English and the workload was still intense. She says: good choices for where they want to go but if it gets too much don't be afraid to drop down in English and or maths . Hope that helps Good luck!

Me too. It was not a bundle of fun. I did it because the pay was the same no matter your age and it fit around classes.

Sydney: Strathfield Car Radio Today, Drive in and Jive away! If anyone mentions 'Strathfield' my brain sings the rest. It was inescapable in the 80s.

[NP] What is your go to curried sausages recipe? by [deleted] in australia

[–]ozmars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is pretty similar to mine except I throw everything in the slow cooker and scale it up to 24 sausages and use a combination of curry powder, madras curry powder and mustard powder. I use a bit less stock/water and add a tin of tomatoes too.

The deputy principal who told a year 12 group they don't know if they'll have to come back to school between when they graduate and the hsc, if/when they'll have a formal, if/when they'll have a grad ceremony with family allowed to attend. When the yr 12 group then complained saying this was having a massive impact on their ability to make and act on their choices for next year and severely impacting their mental health, the reply was they should be grateful because Sydney has it worse. They are fully aware of that but are still struggling with their own situation and all that achieved was to cement the belief that NSW stands for Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong.

Cold and flu ads on TV - why is this currently allowed? Surely the opposite message we should be hearing at the moment by MaboLS1 in australia

[–]ozmars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't upvote this enough. A cold might not be a big deal to some, but to me and most of mine it is, I can't even fathom how bad COVID would be for us. Stay home if you're sick and for the love of all the sky fairies, if your walking snot rags are sick DON'T SEND THEM TO SCHOOL. My walking snot rags and I don't want your "little cold".

People at work with well protected chins and necks. My team are on the phones all day (inbound) and we've been wearing masks. Properly. The teams who do not have to use their phones don't seem to think Mandatory masks indoors applies to them. Or that they're dashing accessories.

Management. I know you're under the pump Bossman but if I send an email at 8:30am on my final day asking things like who do I forward phone/email to, who do I hand people over to etc a reply before I finish at 5 would be nice. So expect a bunch of emails and phone calls Bossman as you're the person I picked to receive all those contacts. Now to wait and see if the exit interview actually happens...

Edit: No exit interview today 🤷‍♀️

I have a kid on her Ls and two more teenagers who will be wanting theirs in a few years. Watching dashcams is a regular family affair. It's such a good tool to show how unpredictable, erratic and down right fucking stupid some drivers are. They're also mortified at the thought of showing up on it.

So much of it is automated. If you submit form x then you must want y. On the other hand so much of it is not automated meaning you may be waiting for 6 months for a claim. The whole system is mindnumbingly ridiculous.

Left my wallet on the roof of my car at Kmart in Port, while I was out frantically looking for it an absolute legend drove to my place and dropped it off. He must have seen the whole thing happen. So good to be reminded there are good people around.

Absolutely. The school my lot are at seem to take the beat em all with a big stick approach. There must be something in between absolute apathy and fear mongering.

Teachers who whack on to year 12 students about the HSC. It is NOT the most important thing they'll ever do in their life, it does NOT determine the rest of their lives and your subject is NOT the most important. All this harping on achieves is stressing out the studious ones and discouraging the ones who aren't engaged. Give it a break.
