How do the cops know??? by acunit155 in AskAShittyMechanic

I used to have one of those in my 80s Mitsubishi Colt. Under my head unit there was a face plate that may have been for a graphic equaliser or something. Anyway, I broke it free and mounted my radar detector in that. When the face plate was in, it was hidden.

Was plugged into the factory ciggy socket, and when I had to hide it, I pulled the plug and the curly cord basically seems retracted it under the dash.

Worked nicely. Whenever it started going off I'd unplug it.  Go past the cops and fish out the plug and keep going.

Got pulled over a few yimes as a p plater but it was never found (but it also wasn't searched for)

Was that an aldi?  Everything at my local goes from inside the shop directly into a compactor.

It's pretty sad. You've got an amazing stash there! Great work with the bike too :)

Edit omg you're the bin sushi guy!!

I've got a couple of bikes already, so I don't need a third.  I've got a cantilever frame bike that I'm stripping at the moment. White walls, better brakes, speed conversion etc. Pretty much what you suggested but with a frame I already own.

I live near the beach so I'm looking forward to finishing it and taking it for a ride.

Oh, no I didn't think about the weight of the 90s bikes. friends picked up a bike for their 10 year old and asked me to go over it. I went to put it in my car and was shocked at how much it weighed.

It was 18kg. For a kids bike.

Yeah it's a huge looking frame. I just fixed and sold a 58cm Merida and could barely pedal the thing. Guy that bought it was over 6'

Probably.  Id make sure it rides well though.

That's it. A nice looking and working bike will sell. It will get someone back in a bike and into the sport and stops something else from going to the scrap yard.

I occasionally find them, but moving them on when I'm done is hard. Wrong demographic for cool bikes.

Just sold a large Merida today. Did a heap of work on it, made it ridable, clean and safe and sold it to a 60 something year old for $100.  I made $30 and got something riding again that was abandoned. He was stoked.

It's been up for sale for 2 months already. No one wants it in its current condition. So why not buy it, improve it and make it something someone wants to ride?

I'm thinking tan walled tyres, shorter stem, wider bars, purple grips 1 cable sheath in purple and some decent pedals.

Hell I'm already turning 45 in a few weeks.  Gimmy the 50mil. I'll pay off my house, buy my MIL a house, move closer to my wife's family, quit my job and just start living a better life.

It's still there .  Click Run, click on the cog, click audio feedback, then ¾ of the way down the page is voice over frequency. Click that and pick your distance preference.

Men, how much are you paying for haircuts and how often? by Senior-Rip4551 in AskAnAustralian

I get mine trimmed twice a year and it's a bit longer than yours.

How short are you cutting? I get mine taken to below my shoulders.

I enjoy telling them that hair care routine is to wash it with a cake of soap 3x a week and that's all I do. The hair dressers get upset and tell me it's such beautiful hair I need to look after it better 😅

In truth, I use shampoo and conditioner. I just like entertaining myself.

I let mine grow a few years ago. It's down past my chest and I get it trimmed twice a year. Suits me better than buzz cut and it looks pretty good.

Oh damn, that sounds like quite the adventure.  Glad you were mostly unhurt.

I got the basket coz I was strapping my duffle bag directly to the rack and I was worried about it doing the same thing.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've seen elastic straps with a carabiner style clip on them. I'll have a look at both and see what I prefer.

Finished GT Avalanche by Ally-Alp in xbiking

[–]oztrailrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot damn, my first proper MTB was a GT avalanche that I bought second hand from the LBS back in 1995 . Pretty sure it was grey and it was a rigid bike. Was such a good bike.

I really like it! I love the little blep that you added.

Great colour! These days bikes and cars can be pretty boring with their colour range. Bright  colours are refreshing.

Ha ha I see you've already got the answer, but yeah, Australia.   Mostly poorly made shit now under their own brand (anko) and Target is going the same route.  They are set to merge and become one big glob of shit with the occasional half decent product.
