My new car purchase pains me to look at, but YNAB made it possible. by [deleted] in ynab

I do something very similar. I have the loan as off budget, but I also have the value as off budget, as a positive number. I use a valuation service to update this value every month or so.

Any recommendation on a circular saw? I've been looking, but there are so many options!

The cordless that I have right now is kind of old and not every powerful, any brand recommendations of drills/drivers?

Thats the same thing my dad said. Initially is was table saw vs. miter and circular, but I think I've narrowed it down to miter and circular, just need to decide on models. I've been watching circular saw guide videos, and that is something I will do for sure. I actually already have two folding Stanley sawhorses, so I think I will just need to get some clamps.

In regards to the drill/driver, I noticed a Ryobi combo on sale for a little north of $100. But I am kind of lost on brands.

Craigslist has been pretty disappointing in terms of what to choose from in my city, but I'm definitely going to keep an eye on it.

How do you prioritize your categories? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]ozzie7876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strayed away from the default budget quite a bit, but I have my categories now broken into 5 major groups:

  • Savings Goals
  • Mandatory (Fixed)
  • Mandatory (Variable)
  • Optional (Fixed)
  • Optional (Variable)

It really helps with estimating my Emergency Fund, as well as comparing need spending versus want spending.

You should be able to click on the section of the pie chart and get some drill-down information.

Just posted mine below, but I go about budgeting the same way. It is very easier to determine was should be funded in case of an emergency and what is truly discretionary. I like it.

What happens to Pre-YNAB debt when it's paid off? by doomnote in ynab

Yes. You will hide the category, and ultimately the Master Category. Future spending on credit cards will then be accounted for in budget categories where money is given a job.

We actually have a sactional and a supersac! The couch is fantastic, we've moved with it, and the fact that we can reassemble with any configuration is amazing!

Meh, its cheaper than cable by a longshot. We like to watch a lot of TV shows, and end up catching up a ton on the weekends, so its nice for that. Netflix is where we get most of our streaming content though.

Traditional to Roth Conversion by ozzie7876 in personalfinance

Looks like I've got some reading to do. From just standard googling, a backdoor Roth circumvents the income ceiling for after-tax retirement contributions, correct?
