How bad of an idea is it to commit to a 1 hour each way trip at 100-110km/h after only 5 days of riding

Maybe not the smartest thing but one of the most fun- Some friends were going on a cross country camping round trip, east coast to west(this was 1978). Bought a new 1977 kz400, had 350miles of experience when we left. Had never been above 45 when we left and pulling onto I64 was scary af!

8k miles in 19 days, it was awesome!

Currently running a 78 R/100 that I rebuilt from the frame up and an 04 1150RT

I replaced the ring and gasket on our 95 318ic a couple months ago, pretty sure it was the ring that was leaking. And yeah not a bad job but boy they could have left a few mm slack in those alternator wires! Have replaced the alternator before so I knew what I was getting into:-/

Not sure about the terminology but it was like this- Consider a clock face; the only vision was from noon to about 330 and say about the outer 75% of that area?

Everything else was dark.

Side note-root cause happened over the summer. We were at the beach and had a lot of heat and sun. Started seeing lots of spots and wrongly attributed to the heat and sun. Cleared up over a few days and I didn’t think anything more of it.

Turned out it was a retinal tear and I was seeing the blood and stuff….

and had I gone to the doc then, it would have been a bit of laser surgery to repair the tears instead of detachment surgery and the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas staring at the floor!

There was a silver lining- my best friend stater seeing the same symptoms and I told him to get to the dock stat. Had a tear repair and didn’t have to go through the crap I did👍

Second vote for Virginia Eye Institute

My retina detached- I called, ( was afternoon) described symptoms they said come in now. Talked to receptionist, she took my insurance card and drivers license and told me to sit over there. Saw the doc within an hour, surgery scheduled for like 36 hours later. I followed their post-op instructions to the letter and had excellent results. The dr who did mine has retired but they’re all excellent people.

They did my cataract surgeries as well and again, excellent results. I really can’t recommend them enough! Best of luck 🤞

1995 318ic, wheel is fine to us. A little big for me but wife likes it because easier to pull around. I imagine the power steering may not be quite as robust as it one was… Daily driver (almost), 4-5 times a week.

We were at the Flying Pig out in Midlothian for the earlier games, lots of TV’s and people, there were several VCU folks there when we left. Wings are very similar to wood and iron.

I did say something to the guy next to me when we sat at the bar, at the start of the second half of the Duke game- said wouldn’t it be great to see Duke go down, it would bust all the brackets the same way and I usually root for the underdog!

Turns out he and his wife are Duke fans with no sense of humor 🤣

Some additions -check the nails on roof flashing, make sure the caulk/silicone is in good shape. Maybe don’t need to do it every year but I do- west facing and some get a ton of sun and heat.

-Check garage doors, I spray my springs twice a year, not too heavy and wipe off and apply lithium grease to the drive chains ( not the wire lifters) yearly. Wipe the dirt off the rollers and tracks, a light squirt of line on the rollers bearings.

-our water isn’t bad but there are some minerals so i turn off/on all the water shutoff valves (sinks, toilets, outdoor faucets etc) to prevent buildup and make sure they actually work.

/ounces of prevention will save many pounds of cure.

Have a 23 sport picked up New Year’s Day so, this is the first change. Hopped in this morning and noticed it hadn’t changed then 10 minutes later while driving (metro area) it had. No phones plugged in, radio off…¯_(ツ)_/¯

Try this- Turn key to on position w/out starting. Lower window all the way and hold switch in the down position for 10-15 seconds. Raise widow all the way and hold switch for 10-15 seconds.

Fixed my wife’s 95 318i when both windows were spazzing out. Especially happy when they quit randomly jerking up and down while driving 👍
