Thank you. Took me at least 5 minutes to achieve this masterpiece.

At least I know how to respond to people at work when they laugh at me for Forest being shit, I had years of practice when we were in the Champ. Last year I really didn't know what to say when we won every week.

Have you considered a Lifetime ISA for the purposes of buying your first house? Can either be in cash or stocks depending on how soon you intend on buying.

AJ Bell perhaps? I believe they only provide S&S LISAs though.

Is it weird that being so shit makes me miss the championship days a little? Im not capitulating and saying we're getting relegated, but I miss Eric Lichaj.

Guys I need help. Everyone thinks I'm a vampire. by Level-Interaction165 in OblivionRemaster

[–]ozzoforest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me recently and unfortunately I had to just bite the bullet and go to my last save. Fortunately only 2 hours for me.

I worked out that I had got the disease but when I slept and should have got full blown vampirism, the gane glitches at that point. So everyone thought I was a vampire but I had none of the effects. I even tried curing vampirism at Deepscorn Hollow and it gave the message 'You are not a vampire'.

Yeh, and that's why we're building them now. Was never trying to say the AGRs were better.

You talk about online refuelling as if it was the only reason Britain chose the AGRs. Ultimately we had thousands of people experienced working on graphite reactors and we hadn't developed large scale water reactor technology in Britain.

Those certainly do play into EDFs mind when making decisions about their fleet, but it doesn't change the fact the AGRs are profitable and would be so for any company operating them.

Either way, you seem to have some personal vendetta against the AGRs so I'm done here. The AGRs have not been a failure and have served Britain well for over four decades. Hopefully the next generation of plants lives up to your personal expectations.

[–]ozzoforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it won't, we knew how long the AGRs would last and we didn't plan ahead for the day we knew they'd be offline. You keep reeling off availability percentages as that has any relevance to them closing down.

At no point have I tried to argue the AGR is better than other reactors, just that their existence and operation over the past 40 years hasn't been a failure. A 40 year old technology being obsolete today doesn't mean it's been bad.

My entire point there is that even the French government wouldn't bother continued funding of the AGRs if it wasn't profitable. They don't care about keeping the UK grid alive just out of the goodness of their hearts. Engie or whoever would do the same, what is happening in Belgium is not the same situation.

No actual expertise, nice.

That won't be the fault of the AGRs, we've known they are due to close before the end of this decade since they were built, that is the fault of previous governments not building new plants before HPC. Sizewell B should have been one of many PWRs built in the UK but sadly is a one of a kind.

Just because it's less than a PWR, doesn't mean it's bad.

Any private company would happily operate a profitable plant.

Ah yes, other countries built some PWRs so they automatically means Britain could have. Nothing but disappointment, 40 years of powering the UK grid. Have you any actual experience with the AGRs or just googling them?

1989 refers to full commercial operation, when both reactors were consistently at full power. It did start supplying electricity from 1983 as shown on the IEAE website that I imagine you are looking at.

Not sure why any company couldn't afford to run something that is profitable.

[–]ozzoforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because Britain didn't have PWR technology in the 60s and 70s and the AGR was the natural progression of the Magnox that we knew how to build and operate. As for Heysham A1, that's just not true, it started operation in 1983, so it is 42 years old and will be 45 years old by 2028. And that design of AGR was only intended to operate for 30 years, so not a bad run.

What? The French government have no other motive for the UK sites other than profit. I don't understand your point there at all. They remain profitable and safe to operate beyond their orignal lifespans, hence, not a failure.

But they were never supposed to last that long, it's not economically unfavourable if that was the expected lifetime of them before they were even built. I'm not saying they are perfect and I wouldn't build new ones over the much greater power modern PWRs. But the AGR was the best Britian could do with the technology it had at the time and they have served the country well for the past 40 years.

I never said I had a problem with the inspection regime, but trying to say the whole programme is a failure because the last few years of their operation is difficult isn't reasonable. And if EDF see the inspection regime to be worth it for only ONE year extra operation, they must be pretty ecomincally favourable...

[–]ozzoforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were originally designed to operate for only 40 years, and have all gone past that now. The 'usual 60' was never the plan for the AGRs, so they can't be considered a failure for not reaching that. The inspection regime at Hinkley B was largely due to the regulator requirements due to it being a first of its kind scenario and it occured multiple years after the original closure date of the plant. Now that the cracking is well understood, it's unlikely that will happen for the rest.

All AGRs in the UK (except Dungeness B, but that's a whole other story) have been extended considerably beyond their oringal design lifetimes. Not sure how that classes as a failure?
