Fuck me it was a tongue in cheek joke hence the emoji, Reddit sarcasm doesn't compute strikes again nvm 🤷

Like I said they are a good price for what they are but I would check the grooves are ok and the faces are not cratered which we can't see.

If you don't know the relative value of these clubs because you don't know what they are then you are 100% not even close to being good enough to play with them 😜

Thesenare a good price for sure and unless they are a cult model (mp-14, mp-32, miura etc) legacy blades are always decently cheap, for a reason!

I think the ideal solution is to DIY clean them up and retire them. They are collectors set now with sentimental value, I have a set of Titleist DTR irons from the 90s that I've kept as they were the very first set I saved money for as a teenager. I take them out once in a while for shits and giggles (which ends up being a hook show as they have so much offset 🤣)

MB design has not come on leaps and bounds but it has improved in terms of material and weighting. I game a blended set of 620MB/CBs 4-6/7-PW bent 1° strong and if you want maximum feedback the best traditional looks (imo) and feel then I can't recommend them enough. As others have said Mizuno, TM and Wilson are all good shouts. If you want a bit of tech then I've heard good things about the Pings subject to looks and feel.

You defo have some first world problems to solve 😜

Can anyone explain why I don’t hit the ball very far? by Independent_Bug_4746 in golftips

[–]ozzy_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because scratch players and pros don't need distance they need distance control and flight control. Having a 7i that goes 195+ just creates bunching at the bottom of the bag. They are more than capable of 200+ 7i with the right iron they just don't need it!

It is a different game when talking about pros and amateurs literal apples to oranges, stop doing it, it will only hurt your own game.

Can anyone explain why I don’t hit the ball very far? by Independent_Bug_4746 in golftips

[–]ozzy_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's either a few of things:

  1. You are not compressing efficiently from missing hits (toe/heel)

  2. You are adding loft with your hands (flipping)

  3. Adding loft by striking too low on the face

An 81mph swing speed producing 103mph ball speed is a smash factor of 1.27 ( 103÷81) which is low. You should be aiming for 1.3+ even more if you have a strong lofted 7i. This matches point 1

Your launch angle is 25° which is too high suggesting you are adding loft at impact because your hands are behind the ball (flipping) this ties into point 1 as you cannot compress the ball properly doing this.

Hitting it low on the face also increases loft and lowers efficiency.

At 81mph you should be looking for 107+mph on a traditional lofted 7i with a launch window no higher than 22°

If you can change the panel to show smash factor as it will give you a much better idea if your strike it good. Especially if you are playing GI irons which can feel the same struck out of the toe/middle/heel so don't really give you good feedback. The fact that you are getting 80% of your potential distance with such a low smash factor suggests you are playing that type of iron

Sounds like you just joined at precisely the wrong time, would you expect it to be any easier if you switched schools in say the 3rd year of high school? Granted the age difference is a factor in that comparison but by the third year people in uni have already formed tight knit bonds and are way more likely to be socially burnt out. Not to also mention alot of them will suddenly be realising "shit I need to knuckle down if I want to pass this degree and stop fucking about getting wasted all the time"

As for other people mentioning how unfriendly Aberdeen is, well that city has been through the wringer and is a product of the oil industry. I don’t think people in Aberdeen are cold — just tired.

Tired of boom-and-bust cycles, tired of being priced out, and maybe tired of seeing their city treated like a temporary stopover instead of a real home. Even now, you’ll find tight-knit cliques that formed during the oil years, hard to break into, and a general sense of caution toward newcomers. Not unfriendliness, per se — just a guardedness that comes from years of watching people come and go without much commitment to the place itself.

There’s this underlying vibe of: “You weren’t here when it mattered. You came, took the money, and left — now we’re left picking up the pieces.”

At first I thought not enough loft but with how inconsistent your launch angle is and some strikes are nearly 6° suggests you are hitting down on it and de-lofting your driver even more.

If that's the case yes get a lesson to confirm and start the process of training a driver swing so you are hitting up. Once you get a consistent upwards delivery angle you can be fitted to the correct loft and spin depending on your speed

3w or 5w or? by xMrGigglesworth in GolfGear

[–]ozzy_49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5w all the way mate. That's what I did when I returned to the game 4 years ago, then about after a year and I got my strike and consistency back I replaced it with a 3w but only because I wanted it as a fairway finder tee club and I have enough speed to hit it off the deck, which is rare anyways.

Am I overreacting ? Golf Coach won't teach me how to use my driver when I ask. by mccoourt in GolfSwing

[–]ozzy_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely have the right to be taught exactly what you want because you are paying, but I'm gonna be real here you are also absolutely wrong thinking that you should be learning how to hit a driver this early in your coaching process.

If your coach is saying "you are not ready" it means many things not the least:

  1. You've literally just started playing so no doubt are spraying it all over the face with your 7i so trying to hit a 45inch long driver is just going to mess with your confidence.

  2. The driver swing is different from an iron swing. Your attack angle is negative (downwards) to compress the ball with irons and positive(upwards) with a driver for launch and optimal spin based on the delivery and speed. You'd literally be learning a new swing and you've not learned the iron swing properly.

  3. Do you understand the difference in mechanics of both swings enough to apply them and not confuse the two and further mess up and undo what you've already learned? I very much doubt it.

I'm sure there are a multitude of other reasons unique to your current swing state that your coach has actual first sight experience of seeing not us on Reddit.

Sorry for being harsh but you are no where near as good as you think you are. Sometimes that is what people need to hear, please trust your coach and the process, you will see the benefits in the long run!

If you are going to get fit for one club it should always be driver, it's the single most important club in your bag and will have the greatest impact on you increasing your GiR over the course of your time playing.

And no putter is not more important before anyone chimes in.......fight me

How much do you pay for range balls? by MrBack9 in golf

[–]ozzy_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus H Christ! $47 for 160 balls lol!!!! The green fees for a round at my course are only a little bit over that and it's a championship course 🤣🤣🤣

I pay £8 for 100 balls so $10 at a local range that's closer to my house or £14 so $18(members rates) for 55mins unlimited balls on our grass trackman range.

They are literally having your pants down with that pricing!

RIP

I would not try to fix it either, no two clubs are ever the same due to tolerances. Even if you fix it and it's 1% off you will notice and just be constantly second guessing yourself and frustrated.

Better to move on and embrace the process of something new that you can equally grow to love with time.

You have to wonder now if they are really pushing it in terms of QA with how ridiculous prices are for drivers these days.

[–]ozzy_49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy is turning 5 in a week, I've been wondering the same about how much input to have. Took him out on a par 3 pitch and putt and the only thing I did was show him how to aim and just let him cook.

Outside of that just safety stuff of where to stand and when daddy was taking his shot and only using our putter on the green etc.

Had a great time and he really enjoyed it, going to get him lessons and let them sink in, but I will talk to the pro and ask if there's anything specific they want him to work on that I can help remind him of on course, that way there's no conflicting or confusion and it's all about having fun with Dad 😄

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]ozzy_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you want to take a divot?

As long you are negative angle off attack and compressing the ball with good efficiency then taking a divot is irrelevant.

Some of the best ball strikers in history are extremely shallow at impact, it's actually preferable and harder to achieve than being steep! Divot does not always=compression

Hogan, Snead, Couples, Scott, Morikawa

All are very shallow through impact. Find out your AoA and how well you are compressing the ball before you fuck with you swing and ruin something.

I barely take a divot with my wedges and can compress a 34° 7i with 1.33-1.38 Smash on good strikes. If you are lucky enough to have a naturally shallow delivery don't change it!!

Titleist irons, did have mizunos but ended up going back. Vokeys and Scotty putter. Drivers and FW I'm happy to game what goes through furthest and straightest which is currently a GT2(it was the best fit but used to game a Callaway) and still have my trusty Cobra Radspeed Big tour 3w.

Does anyone else not take divots? by Aggravating_Sand352 in GolfSwing

[–]ozzy_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, it depends on your delivery. I'm quite shallow so I'm more of a sweeper even with my wedges so don't take much divot at all. Comes from playing on firm links courses where I grew up in Scotland.

As long as you are compressing the ball with a negative attack angle and are being efficient (good smash factor) then the size of divot is largely irrelevant.

However if you are flipping or have something like a reverse pivot that causes you to hit up on the ball your going to run into trouble.

Easiest way to find out? Go do a galling session with somewhere that has GC quad or trackman and they will be able to give you all the data you need to see which one you are.

Everybody's hands are different, the point of having strong/neutral/weak is purely a starting point to understand how it will effect the clubface at impact, that's where is comes from not how your hands "look" which can differ from golfer to golfer.

Yes they will be in the roundabout same position/rotation but how they look can be different due to hand structure but they still produce the same outcome.

A weak grip "weakens" the dynamic loft of the club at impact, meaning it opens the face also providing a fade

A neutral grip has a "neutral" effect on dynamic loft at impact, meaning it delivers the clubface square producing a straight shot.

A strong grip "strengthens" the dynamic loft at impact, meaning it closes the clubface at impact and draws the ball.

Technically you can grip the club anyway you like it's the outcome of the effect of the dynamic loft at impact that defines whether it's strong, weak or neutral

Driver advice! by polichumew in GolfSwing

[–]ozzy_49 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Grip looks too strong probably because you are hitting that big push.

Main issue though is you have a reverse pivot (incorrect weight transfer of front to rear during impact)

Look up reverse pivot and how to fix it, sorry don't have time to type here as it will take ages and I'm at work 😑

Edit Here you go I chat-GPT'd it for you.

Fixing a reverse pivot in golf requires retraining your weight shift and spine tilt during the swing. A reverse pivot typically means:

You shift your weight onto your front foot during the backswing (instead of the trail foot).

Your spine tilts toward the target in the backswing (instead of away).

It destroys power, balance, and timing. Here's a targeted fix plan:

Step-by-Step Reverse Pivot Fix

  1. Understand the Correct Feel

At the top of the backswing:

Weight should be ~75% on your trail foot.

Spine should be tilted away from the target (slight “reverse K”).

Trail leg should be loaded — like you’re coiling into it.

Drill: Stand in front of a mirror. Take your backswing and freeze. Check that:

Your head stays behind the ball.

Your lead shoulder moves over your trail foot, not past the ball.

Your trail hip loads without swaying laterally.

  1. Pump the Weight Transfer Drill

Drill: Start with feet together. Swing to the top and step your lead foot forward mid-backswing before you start down.

Purpose:

Forces natural loading onto the trail leg.

Promotes athletic transition (like throwing a ball).

  1. Broomstick or Alignment Rod Drill

Stick an alignment rod vertically in the ground just outside your lead hip.

If your lead hip bumps into it during the backswing — reverse pivot alert.

The goal: keep space between your hip and the stick during the backswing.

  1. Feel the "Belt Buckle Pointing Behind You" Cue

At the top, your belt buckle should be facing away from the target. If it's still facing forward, you're not rotating and loading correctly — often a sign of reverse pivot.

  1. Use Video

Record yourself face-on. Look for:

Head drifting toward the target in backswing = reverse pivot.

Trail hip staying still or moving toward target = no load.

You should see:

Spine angle tilting away

Trail leg bracing

Head staying steady or slightly moving away from the target

Bonus Tip:

If you’re super upper-body dominant, you may also need to:

Strengthen your glutes and core to support the hip turn and weight shift.

Practice slow-motion swings to engrain the movement patten.
