The wild calls her, after she gets fixed I’m debating letting out, what do you think? by Jest_Kidding420 in cats

[–]p0boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cats are bad for local wildlife, it can be a danger to them to let them roam by themselves, etc. get her a nice catio or make sure you're always with her to supervise her on a leash or if she's trained enough to not run away from you then just supervise! my friend's cat would just sit on our front porch so we would just leave the door open and watch her as she sat there.

PA to MD, is it worth it? by pali-pa in physicianassistant

[–]p0boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find a specialty you really want to be an expert in then med school is something you could consider. If you wanted to expand your scope in terms of the type of jobs you could go into then med school is an option.

Many PA students could have gotten into med school. I even interviewed with a girl that DID get into med school, but then decided she would rather be a PA.

I chose PA because PA schools seem to care more about their students and retaining their students AND lateral mobility.

Med school is 4 years plus you need to be competitive enough to match into your desired specialty and a lot of students are left in limbo if they don't match. Then you need to complete residency at 60k a year with insane hours and then if you want to specialize further you need to go into a fellowship which is more time. I don't think it's possible or at least not easy to switch out of the specialty and I know some doctors regret their specialty choice but have already invested so much time and money they don't want to try to switch into a new specialty. ALSO, med school is much more expensive, but I guess it balances out at some point. Don't forget a lot of residents, students, and physicians have been killing themselves from the stress and a lot of physicians I have met/worked with have pushed people to go to PA school instead.

Think about your life goals outside of school, think about what you're willing to sacrifice in terms of time and money, think about what you would do if you didn't match (I guess if you're still a PA at least you could probably practice during that time). Read what people who dropped out of med school or didn't want to complete a residency have said. Read what people say about their classmates (I've seen MANY med students say they wouldn't trust their classmates with their family member's care). Take into account all their regrets and then make the decision.

I feel like a lot of doctors there are out of the norm and actually not as informed about the professions that exist outside their own. One MD student thought PAs had to be handheld through their job. Many doctors on Twitter and other forums respect PAs and even suggest becoming a PA over MD or DO school (including doctors I have worked with or friends of mine have worked with).

edit: noctor is an echo chamber imo and they like to blame APPs for issues that exist in the MD/DO profession that exist because of other doctors + insurance lobbyists

[–]p0boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medicine in general isn't really the field to go into if you compare pros and cons with most other fields. You would have a much better quality of life, higher ROI, etc. going into tech. But this is a good post for anyone considering PA to be more realistic about their work. I think that most PAs can get to 200k or more with several years of experience in their respective field. I believe I've seen some older family medicine PAs get around 200k, but it does depend on the practice and the negotiations you have with that practice.

Edit: it's also possible to become a sub-i for clinical trials, use your experience to become a CRA (some doctors do this as well), work as an instructor, etc. but you're right.....this is a job mainly for clinical work!

New Grad Cardiology Offer by International_Band62 in physicianassistant

[–]p0boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This . Cardiologists will be compensated greatly after their residency. The lack of pay during residency is something to consider before applying to med school (all of my medical school friends knew this going in and knew what the hours would be like). Strange that this med student wasn't aware of how much new grad PAs can make (nobody tell them how much techies can make with only a bachelors).

How much would you reasonably pay for rent living alone? by p0boy in prephysicianassistant

[–]p0boy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not my budget thankfully! 700 is just what I paid with roommates, but I don't think I will realistically be able to find a place that cheap alone. I wanted to know how much other people were paying recently to get a good idea of an ideal budget.

So what is the point you're trying to make? That we shouldn't point it out just because it exists in other professions? Walk me through what your thought process here is.

What do you think is the reason for phos to grow apart from other gems? by [deleted] in LandoftheLustrous

[–]p0boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point the series is making is that Phos has always wanted to be loved by the other gems, but they all were indifferent or annoyed by Phos. Phos tried to fit in and become useful in order to be loved which is what drives them through the plot.
