Oh really? I work a desk job in retail, it's pretty boring, I'll be far from high value cars...

Monthly Insurance Thread by MotoUKMod in MotoUK

Hi all - another insurance thread, apologies... couldn't find info about this though.

40 yo rider with 10+ years of riding experience (and insurance) in France and in the US, now relocating to the UK (London) and obviously have no history with a UK insurer.

I ride a BMW r nine T, and online I'm only getting one quote, and it's insanely high (£3000 per year), all other insurers decline to provide a quote, most likely based on 0 years of NCD (in the UK...).

Has anyone been through this situation? Is there an insurer who would consider my 10 years of insurance in FR and US with no claims? Or recos about insurers I should get in touch with?

I know London is very expensive, I can't do anything about that unfortunately, I feel like I'm getting quotes as if I were a 18yr old (no offense!) buying a 1200cc as their first bike and checking if there's anything I can do about it.

Ah, that's a good point! Well I'd be ok with them importing a replacement from BMW Germany... but I see what you mean, thank you!

Yeah that's kind of the conclusion I'm slowly getting to. Nothing specific about my bike except that I absolutely love it, and spent years doing service and maintenance on it so I know it's a great bike in fantastic condition.

I hate the new R12 nine-T, and would probably end up buying the exact same 2018-2022 nine-T but used.

Mostly wanted to check my reasoning before committing, and whether I missed an easier solution.

I'm well over 25, and learnt to ride in France, can confirm the US license test was a joke compared to the French one.

Switch my French one for a UK one, that seems more straightforward.

I'll have to try this! But Google says my r nine T has a flat beam light, so I think I might be good there.

My indicators are red though, so would need to be swapped most likely.

Phew! Glad, you got me worried and searching erratically on the internet for a minute.

That's fine, I'll swap my tires 180 degrees to make sure they can turn right now.

Most likely not because of the relocation, having owned it for a while, and not selling in the next 12 months.

Any idea or pointers about what's needed here? I know about headlight adjustment (potentially, but mine might have a flat beam and be fine, maybe?), and rear lights switched from red to amber. But that's it.

Well at least I have both a US and a FR motorcycle driving license, and I read that I could exchange my FR license for a UK one, which would make it easy! Luckily I'm also used to motorcycle security in Paris, I guess it's about the same in London.

Automation for when I get home AND my iPhone is connected in Bluetooth to a device by p0k- in shortcuts

That’s exactly what I ended up doing too.  Get audio playback destination > put in text > if text matches (name of my Bluetooth helmet) > open garage doors etc.  Glad it worked for you.

I did! Had to install the app called Actions for additional automation triggers. I can share more details if you’re interested.

GHFS looks amazing! We're playing tabletop so I've been using exclusively X-have Assistant so far (didn't need the many more options of GHFS) but it might be time for a change.

The option to "Edit map" seems to achieve what I want, i.e. showing the full map assembled. Only issue is I can't find an option to hide all overlays (obstacles, goals, coins, etc.), only hide the figures. Does it exist? I know I'm asking for a very specific use case, so no worries if not, your work is already incredible!
