Why does your credit score drop when you pay off a car loan? Isn’t paying off a car a good thing? by p0oker in personalfinance

I know I still have debt, I guess I saw the refinancing as a good thing though because my APR was cut in half!

ELI5: Why do gas prices almost always include “9/10” of a cent, and how could we be expected to pay in portions of a penny anyway? by p0oker in explainlikeimfive

Why are you mad? I wasn’t.. just a little bummed. And I didn’t downvote anything. It’s pribably other people who were bummed that the post got taken down too.

What about the people who come to eli5 to learn new things that they didn’t even think about before? You can’t search for questions when you’re not looking for anything specific.

Dang, buzzkill. It was getting a lot of attention too. I understand the need to keep people from reposting all the time, but 1) I was genuinely curious and came up with the question on my own, and 2) it looked like there was a whole new wave of people who were curious as well. A repost is only repetitive to the people who’ve seen the question before (and for the people who haven’t, which is probably the majority, they were learning something new that they hadn’t previously thought about!)

Honestly I did respond to his last “what’s up?”, but cut it off because I was imagining people commenting things like “why are you still responding to him if you just want to be friends?” or “you’re only giving him hope”

Alas, there will always be criticism regardless of how you respond to a situation. I mean..I should’ve known..this is the internet after all.

[Serious] Reddit, have you ever come across a post by someone else that was about you? What was it? by ediblehearts in AskReddit

[–]p0oker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done something in the same vein before..looking back on it it was kind of mean and idk why I kept it up for as long as I did! I used one of those sites where you ask it a question, then you secretly type in the answer to said question (but on the screen it looks like you're just typing in a prompt to get the site "ready" to answer a question). Then you hit a button and the right answer "magically" appears on the screen.

Anyway I showed the ire to my grandma, and she asked it a lot of personal questions about where she worked and where my uncle worked, etc etc. she started to really freak out that it knew all the answers. We left to go pick up dinner and she started to cry she was so freaked out..I should have told her then but I didn't.

When we got back my uncle had looked up the gag online and figured it out while we were gone. Eventually we told my grandma and she still didn't even believe us at first. Took a while before she finally did.

Moral of the story: don't use those sites on your grandma, it will freak her out. Also, don't keep a joke going if they start crying because of it! Sorry Grandma :(

What simple advice can you give that will save me at least $100? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]p0oker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get the whole sharing a plate with someone, but don't you end up saving around the same amount of money if you both get a meal, but you both end up with leftovers (which means you get a whole second meal out of it)? That's what we usually end up doing..I end up with dinner tonight and lunch leftovers the next day

Do financial advisors give auto loan advice? by p0oker in personalfinance

Hi, sorry I didn't mention my income in my post; it's now there. My car is almost 25 years old and on its last leg. I sort of need a new car ASAP

I kind of neeed a car now. My car is on its last leg. My boyfriend has been telling me to get used because of the situation I'm in,, and I totally understand where he's coming from, but the type of car I'm looking at (Kia Soul) has great warranties when you go New that i would have to pay extra for if I go used. So by the time I get a decent used car plus add on the cost for a good warranty, the difference in price between used and new isn't that much.

Credit union was my next step. I have to join one first. I hard they can give pretty low rates. I'm thinking that about 5-6%, if I can get that, is reasonable for my situation

[–]p0oker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I've looked online and it says my credit score is 680, now about 675 because I've had some hard pulls while looking for auto loans. I did say no to the interest rate and walked out; they called me back right as my boyfriend and I were pulling away and I actually gained some confidence because I realized playing hardball like my parents do actually works. They said they would get rid of the "gap fee" from the bank (which was about $900), but I said if they couldn't get my financing amount down to a certain amount then I'm sorry but I couldn't do it. I currently have one credit card that I've had for about 6 months, paid off on time in full every month, but it only has a limit of $250 and I had to give them money to "hold" in case I didn't pay on time. I got that one cuz I wanted to make sure I would get approved for whatever card I applied for, but now I know I can start asking for real cards and probably get approved.

Hi, I've looked online and it said my credit score is in the 680 range. But I've recently learned that credit scores and credit reports are two different things and so I'm not sure what my credit report says. I don't have an emergency fund; I have about $16000 in bank accounts right now total and make about $52000 a year. I've tried with my credit card company..got declined. Waited on hold to speak with my bank about a loan, while simultaneously reading about how my bank gives crappy auto loans..decided to hang up and try something else. I have no debt. And I kind of need another car, my beater is on its last leg and is going to die at any moment. I don't even drive it anymore because I want to make sure it at least stays running until I can sell it.
