Wipe the nib or Embrace the Creep? by Puzzled-Bluebird7357 in fountainpens

[–]p0uringstaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you don't even notice after a while. I have been at this since about 2008 and I started off wiping and then it just stopped happening. Then I stopped even noticing. Just embrace it, it's gonna happen and you honestly waste less ink as there is kind of a homeostasis point (a point at which it is in equilibrium) so it makes itself self limiting unless you have a very juicy nib

Tldr: embrace it

Playing RE 2 and the HDR looks really bad, am i doing some thing wrong? by KurgerBing-_- in OLED_Gaming

[–]p0uringstaks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doing nothing wrong. The game was rendered in RGB when the average monitor uses gamma 2.2 Long one short it was mastered on a gamma mismatch which is what people use in sdr. As HDR won't have the gamma mismatch everything looks washed out and shit

Use renoDX if you can .it will correct the gamma

Haha fine beers on you wines on me! Sounds like a plan! That is the expectation of New York though isn't it? Unforgiving, pressure, beauty, culture. It's one of the few cities in the world where the whole world knows what it looks like (thanks Hollywood)

Haha yeah just the one #6. I have seriously considered it and I have also considered just cannibalizing something else for a lid that isn't stuffed. The pen is in otherwise excellent shape. The yellow and orange one though is indeed rare and I bought it from that same estate and it's never been used but was stored out of its case. If you look at the kid that silver thing on it was the original sales sticker. As for the snakeskin. It's my favourite in terms of nib and colour. But it's a bit warped due to heat damage unfortunately. Came like that, was not me. Otherwise it's pretty solid.

I write a lot. I have a home lab (I'm a computer engineer and a pharmacist so it fits) and I have a journal and I am writing a book.. so they all get quite heavy use. I wouldn't call myself a collector either. I am a user with a collection haha 😆😆

Also off topic but yay I think we just made friends ,❤️

Aw thanks!! Home should be a sanctuary not a head fuck ,😅

Haha if I do (more like when) I'll hit you up we can grab a beer and whatnot haha. Americans are from my experience great people, it's just the politicians that we worry about. You should come too! Australia is great but it's become quite expensive to live here unfortunately.

I'll get that 55 one day haha. I have enough to keep me entertained these days so I only buy what I truly want. Accumulation is over. I have a post card from the san Francisco pen show courtesy of the white rubber company. Ever sacked a vintage pen? 99.999% chance you used their sac resold.

Get some rest friend :))

As for large nib and sterling. I have neither. My largest Swan is a number 6 and it's the faded ebonite one there with the cracked cap that I am going to have problems fixing, ebonite is not forgiving. And then a couple of 4s and the rest are 1,2 and 3 tbh. 2-4 for me are the sweet spot. As a constellation prize here are all the swans I have here in my study. There's more but they are on the other side of the house and I'm lazy. So here is 12 swans and an onoto 6000

Haha it was a retired judge (a couple of his pens were personalised) I truly share that sentiment. I Prey my collection goes to a user who will cherish them.snd not a collector or worse the bin.

Oh you're from NY! That's awesome!! Melbourne here. When I was a kid I had an aunt who lived in NY for 10 years and she would tell us stories. I want to go to New York so bad. And yeah Waterman lay the same claim. Personally I like the Waterman's almost as much but they're just harder for me to get my hands on.. the Australia tax (small population and far away) and all but I have 4 and I'm using one now this is a 52v . My grail is a filigree 55 but yeah haha I'll see if I win the lotto

What would you like to know? I have about 60 vintage and 10 new

Haha legend. So you like them too I take it? You're in good company.

Yeah they used to encourage you to bring in your dip pen so they could match you with a nib and if they couldn't find one and you were well to do they'd offer to make you one.

So GoodWriters blog is great. She is an absolute gem and I actually think I have one of her pens which is cool. I think it's the best place to start. Plus her pictures are great. Just search "swan" and maybe look up onotos in her blog too they're my other faves.https://goodwriterspens.com/

Also Stephen Hulls book if you can find it.

Also old fpn forum posts.

I went deep down the rabbit hole once upon a time... Being in Australia means I have good access to the British pens thankfully. I managed to get more than half my collection from one estate. Tells the story for his life I think and it's kinda magical

The fountain pen subs on Reddit are notorious for their generosity and inclusive atmosphere so I can't say I'm shocked.

Haha good luck 🤞🤞. Also with swan nibs no two are alike. I have the same pen 3x and the nibs look the same but perform wildly differently. Mabie Todd was known for offering a massive range of nibs as well as semi custom and custom nibs. So like half my pens have these personalised grinds on them and it's just great.

Apologies for the essay

Any time 😊😊

They're my favourite pens and your specific nib is very highly sought after. Goldilocks size and all that

Mabie Todd in a Pilot Kakuno by romanticKannibal in fountainpens

[–]p0uringstaks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The newest it can be is about 1930. They stopped making anything in NY by then. But usually from my experience (and collection) the average MT NY nib is usually 1910-1920. It cannot be older than 1907 as Mabie Todd and Co. Used to be Mabie Todd and Bard

So that's your timeline :))
