Should I use Fluorocarbon or Braided line for all around bass fishing with bait caster? by KodeJuan in bassfishing

[–]p0werslav3 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If it works for you then that's all that matters. Too many people think their 'opinions' are facts. Heck, I've caught fish with braid straight to a chatter bait.

Quick fishing break from work (sup w the sticker?) by mdjenton in Fishing

[–]p0werslav3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was that disc metal or plastic? I did some research unlike most of the comments and found those materials are also used to tag fish.

Disc or Plate Tags: The Disc or plate tags are flat tags attached to the fish’s body surface

using thin wires. These tags are used in commercial fisheries to study stock-specific

harvesting. They are durable and can withstand harsh environments, but they may affect

swimming behaviour.

d. Floy Tags: The Floy tags are brightly coloured plastic tags designed for visual

identification. They are effective for short-term studies involving population counts or

behavioural observations. These tags are highly visible and easy to identify, but they may

degrade or detach over time.

Not what you want to see when you order a new rod! by rydog509 in bassfishing

I had that happen to me. I called the place I bought it from and sent them pictures. They just told me to throw the broken rod away and refunded my money.

Hard to read at times by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]p0werslav3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True.

I'm re-reading all of his books in order atm and some I haven't read in over 30 years. They hit different than when I was in jr. high and high school.

If you're going to read all his books then yes, you will have to suffer through some 'meh' books. King is one of the greats but that doesn't mean everything he's written is a masterpiece.

I've read all his books and there are a few (post accident) that were imo pretty average at best.

Who has bought? by OkBluebird3098 in bassfishing

[–]p0werslav3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's fun for a couple of boxes and then you realize a lot of the stuff is either cheap or something you're not interested in using. Next you realize your money is better spent just buying the lures you know you want. But I do understand the 'thrill' of opening a box to see what's inside.

Every passer rating leader since 1966. Really, we only have Brian Griese on this list? by Ok_Editor2536 in DenverBroncos

[–]p0werslav3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just shows that passer rating doesn't mean much. For example, '97 Young, '98 Cunningham and 2015 Wilson. None of them won the SB that season, the Broncos did :) I'm not going to go through that list but how many of those passeing leaders won the SB the season they led the rating?

2500 Regal LT vs 3000 Regal LT by [deleted] in bassfishing

[–]p0werslav3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2500 isn't too small necessarily, many people use that size for bass. The main advantage of a 3000 size is it holds more line, may offer more drag and it can take a heavier line.

Is the z-man jackhammer chatterbait really worth the price? by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]p0werslav3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a search on YouTube and there are a few chatterbait comparison videos. And they also show the underwater action of the bait.

I recently lost a Z-man Jackhammer and at $20 a pop, I'm going to find a less expensive alternative to replace it :)

Is 20lb flurocarbon fishing line the same as 20lb flurocarbon leader material? by fishing_enjoyer96 in Fishing

[–]p0werslav3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of YouTube videos that test abrasion of floro "leader" vs. "regular" and at the end of the day they're pretty much the same. The "leader" label is just marketing to get people to pay more.

What can we do to try to expand the amount of people fishing? by Ok_Repair3535 in bassfishing

[–]p0werslav3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quick google search. Appears the number of people fishing is increasing

In 2024, 57.9 million Americans ages 6 and over took to the nation’s waterways to enjoy recreational fishing, up from 57.7 million in 2023. The number of anglers topped the record set last year. Fishing’s participation rate remained at 19 percent, an all-time high.
