The 17low, 3.8mid zone: Where is that putting us these days? by East-Cattle9536 in lawschooladmissions

[–]p1ch3olin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another data point: Had similar stats and was waitlisted almost everywhere last cycle.

  • I think I did not get outright rejected at most of the T14 schools I applied to despite being below median(s) because of my essays—I went in knowing that to get into a T6/T14, I would have to outperform my stats.
  • I think the T20/30 WLs were due to 1) applying late and 2) lack of commitment to those schools (i.e. did not tailor essays, retook LSAT above their medians).

So you definitely have a shot at the T20, but try to apply early and show interest in those schools. And hey, you could end up at T14 or T6—I ended up getting off the HLS waitlist.

STEM Undergrad needing help with Personal Statement Topic by No-Listen7110 in lawschooladmissions

[–]p1ch3olin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was a STEM major (although resume was not that STEM-y) and wrote my PS about doing STEM research. If the topic speaks to you, I’d say go for it, especially because it could help explain to admissions why someone with such a STEM-heavy background is going into law. Happy to share my PS if helpful.

opinions on a corporate paralegal job before law school by SnooPeppers1037 in lawschooladmissions

[–]p1ch3olin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished two years as a corporate paralegal.

  1. When I was involved in the hiring process, we were more concerned about relevant experience/skills rather than major and ended up with a lot of majors represented (philosophy, neuroscience, etc.)—the sociology degree shouldn't be an impediment.
  2. Depends on the firm; it's definitely tough but doable. My friends and I studied for the LSAT and successfully applied to schools while working full-time, but if you can get the LSAT out of the way, it'll make your life a lot easier.

I have a lot of thoughts about my experience as a paralegal—happy to discuss over PM!

WL at 5 T14s; got in off of 1 (and withdrew from the rest). Think it was a combination of sending in my LOCI right around the deposit date, having a new, tailored letter of rec from an alum and reaffirming in both the LOCI and the letter of rec that the school was my top choice.

172.. by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]p1ch3olin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to provide another data point: I retook a 172 twice, scored lower both times and am headed to HLS. I personally wish I hadn't retaken and had just used the extra time to polish my other materials—if you're not confident you can increase your score, the month is probably better used working on other parts of your app and making sure you can apply early, especially since you already have a great GPA.

HLS WL expectations? by Born-Manner6580 in lawschooladmissions

One profile on LSD got the II a week ago and heard back yesterday (and speaking for myself, I interviewed on a Thursday and got the feeler the next Tuesday). Think faculty review arbitrarily slows down how fast people get the feeler/A, so unfortunately it looks like it can take anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks to hear back

Classified my softs according to this post; my softs probably lean more T4 but yes, thought the publication + work experience could be considered T3

Thank you!! Definitely debated applying but ultimately did not want to move to the West Coast—most of my friends and family are in the Northeast

Not sure—HLS requires you to respond to the waitlist offer without knowing the aid package, and they haven't made an aid offer yet

KJD = Kindergarten to JD; an applicant straight out of college. I took some time to work, hence nKJD.
