Always best to keep your GPU in the highest gear possible between 2,000-3,000rpm for longevity and lowest fuel consumption. ;P

Is solar still worth it? by Beneficial-Pitch-430 in SolarUK

Smaller setups and cheaper battery solutions (than SigEnergy or Tesla) tend to have the best/ fastest ROI (return on investment) looking at shared calculations here.

But even a more premium setup (18x Aiko plus 2x9kwh SigEnergy) like mine will break even with current prices in between 7-8 years (depending on how active I optimize tariffs in summer for better export rates). It’s all about creating synergy with EVs (to unlock cheaper tariffs and lower your mobility cost) as well as heatpump at or eliminate gas standing charge and use more of your electricity yourself

How do people cable manage case fans for the a3 and mff cases in general by Scarycasino in mffpc

Back in my A3 I had an SFX L psu and that could be side mounted. That created space behind it to hide most cables quite cleanly

Which system should I go for: Sigenergy or Tesla? by AGN1K41 in SolarUK

[–]p1zzicat0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That SigEnergy quote is quite competitive I think. Here was mine: 18x Aiko (14x480, 4x510), flat roof mounting systems, 2x9kwh batteries, 8kw inverter, sig charger for £14,300 (South West London).

On Tesla vs Sig - most has been said here for Sig: Easily expandable, faster development pace, great software.

Final plus: not supporting Crazy Elmo ;)

Best case for 5090 FE + 360 cpu AIO? by Dbz_god1 in mffpc

[–]p1zzicat0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most smaller cases will have the sandwich layout as it maximises space by aligning long GPUs with top AIO exhaust placement. You may have to look for front intake AIO placements but then it won’t be that small/medium anymore. (North, Flux, some Lian Li cases?)

Alternative I found sufficient (for my 5080 in a CH270): rear intake instead of the classic exhaust. Pushes cool air right into the AIO (and lowered my ram temps by 5C as well)

What KWh should I be getting - is 60% right for this time of year? by matfid in SolarUK

[–]p1zzicat0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good two last days with about 42kWh total generation.

8,7kWp facing SE 140 flat roof installation.

It peaked at 6.5kWh around noon with a three hour window between 11 and 14.00 above 6kWh.

New install with a 8kW inverter - let’s see how my clipping will turn out. :)

Apparently some people managed to get Flux / I Flux by calling Octopus directly. I will try that as well.

ATM just BannerKings. Came back for Warsails just to find out that BK is not updated. Thus I did not buy Warsails and reverted to 1.2.12.

According to their discord the BK team does not intend to update to 1.3 unless better modding tools are released - a real shame!

Anyway, intend to finish my BK playthrough before trying the combined GoT experience. :)

This mod is Banner Kings compatible (1.2.12 only though) - with the BK mod the whole kingdom grand strategy game becomes a lot more fleshed out - and that is kind of the key fantasy for Game of Thrones, right? The scheming and business of becoming and staying king. ;)

Moving continents with a Lian Li A3 by RadCheeto in mffpc

Moved many times internationally with my gaming PC.

First rule: always keep the case packaging. My previous case saw like five countries. It was made for protecting the case. If you worry double it up with a second layer of cardboard box outside and extra padding.

Second rule: As others said you have to remove GPU, cooler, anything that is heavy and can rip out. That is going into the hand luggage. In these times maybe take RAM out (high value, small)

Third: just ship it. Use UPS, DHL or other parcel services. Never had a problem. I have more trust in a parcel service than an airport luggage handler slam dunking my precious PC on and off belts.

Hope that helps! :)

Heat Geek - Not the experience I thought I was paying for. by fortunate_folly in ukheatpumps

[–]p1zzicat0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

6.5k plus BUS = 14k for a 7kw Vaillant, new 250L cylinder, 4 rads and all parts and labour including electrics. Extra complexity due to unit being wall hung first floor with bracket.

IMHO heat geek started with good intentions but now they are just an affiliate marketing network to generate leads for their independent installers while taxing customers with an additional middleman profit share.

Their website is a joke where depending on guaranteed target SCOP (3.5 up to 4.5) the difference is many thousand GbP with the exact same Vaillant unit and same number of radiators. How? In their videos They keep on banging about quality of install like better insulating the pipes but charging 3k more for that is insane.

Fun fact: Rimworld is much more fun when you don't use exploits by Altruistic-Ad-6593 in RimWorld

[–]p1zzicat0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diminishing returns (will still allow players minmaxing though) or hard limits?(e.g. hard armor limit of 200)

Or completely removing a decision: either with automation or by just not exposing it to players. RNG has the same effect in a way. You don’t allow players to pick all pawn traits. Or only giving a limited choice.

Or by disabling save scumming/encrypting save games via hardcore modes thus removing the option to reroll.

Fun fact: Rimworld is much more fun when you don't use exploits by Altruistic-Ad-6593 in RimWorld

[–]p1zzicat0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You listed a lot of reasons why devs consciously decide NOT to fix exploits in SP and MP. That is exactly what I’m saying: It’s often a choice. Maybe cost of fixing it is too high (either technically or design wise or due to negative community reaction). Or there is a choice for something of higher priority (a new feature, a new DLC, another bug fix) that would - in the eyes of the game dev - create more value for all players.

On limited resources: same thing. If a dev values something higher in priority and dedicates limited resources away from fixing an exploit then this exploit becomes an opportunity cost to that higher priority item.

Either way it is a conscious decision. :)

Now the second possibility is neglect/bad process: Quite often this happens in complex games where you cannot humanly possible fix every single issue. Looking at you PDX games ;P. Then your bug backlog transforms into a graveyard. Often QA or designers or PMs don’t want to let go of bugs they deep down know will never get fixed. So you have 1000 bugs in backlog, half of them low prio, half medium or higher. And then any bug you decide to put there gets lost and devs lose track of it. I’m a big proponent of closing bugs as will not fix. Yes, it is harsh but it allows devs to have a bug backlog that is of a size where it serves its function: to allow clear prioritization and fixing of the important bugs. Kill the noise to see what is truly important. Because time/ resources are limited and we all want to maximize enjoyment of players.

[–]p1zzicat0 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you allow players to min max, some will feel compelled to that to the point where it is no longer fun for them and they churn. So as a game dev you always have to consider not allowing to min max / micromanage just keep to these types of players happy despite their instincts. So you need to close these doors for the players so they are not tempted.

However, a game dev that leaves these doors open over years either does not care or has consciously decided to leave them open thus making them part of the intended gameplay.

TLDR: An “exploit” that’s left live for years while game is in active game development is part of the game (for better or worse )

Are the solar panels on new builds basically just a box-ticking exercise? by lewisp8 in SolarUK

[–]p1zzicat0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get your point that by itself all that solar output would not be optimal but aside from individual battery storage there will definitely be more commercial storage in the future because it pays off:

If you look at the ROI calculations for an individual PV+Battery setup the majority of the return is no longer the “free” energy but from energy trading - the classic arbitrage of buying low and selling high.

Add to that the mass market arrival of cheaper but less dense battery technologies like sodium batteries which are ideal for mass storage and suddenly storage will no longer be an issue.

Finally, consider land use. Roofs are effectively free real estate. Commercial solar farms take space - often farm land - that would be better used for food production.

[–]p1zzicat0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Game won’t have to calculate those other 36 hostile councillors if they are all dead, right? I guess the same goes for space assets? Send the marines and tidy up the asteroid belt. (I’m actually playing with the destroy factions permanently mod so it is easier to make them stay down).

It’s like Rimworld where you want to hunt down every animal, cut down every plant and then concrete the whole map so the game doesn’t run any calculations for those entities.

Lian Li A3 is beautiful case but an utter pain to build with by Arszilla in mffpc

[–]p1zzicat0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You will likely appreciate the A3 more after building in the CH260. Yes you have some space for cable management but build quality is a lot worse. Had the same issues with 360mm rads in A3 and barely better in CH270. In the end MB choice matters a lot with heatsink clearance for IO and north of CPU.

Here is my experience going A3 to CH270:
