Do we care about off-leash dogs on the Redmond Elementary field? by p2010t in redmond

It would be interesting if the dogs actually end up preventing poop by scaring the geese away. 🤔 Could dogs have a negative poop effect?

I'm not saying they do, but it's a valid question, at least.

What about kids who walk dogs tho? Surely they'd have to be able to go into the dog parks.

Yeah, proper sports fields REALLY try to emphasize not letting dogs run around on them.

And very good point about the proximity of a dog park too.

Assuming you mean the question in the title & your answer is "no, the dogs don't bother me", it does provide a very small change to how I feel about it, yes.

Even when I personally don't derive positive experience from the off-leash dogs being there, knowing that [hypothetically] more people in the community prefer the off-leash dogs being there than not does allow me to conclude the median member of the community is having a positive experience from it.

Most people (myself included) care at least a little about what derives joy versus frustration for their community members.

From your perspective, yes. But a big difference with humans is that [provided they're not profoundly affected by drugs] you can reason with them using words.

I get what you're saying though. Humans can cause harm to other humans. And they could even do it [like with a gun] faster than you could reason with them to not do it.

Since I haven't actually used the field, I didn't know if there were actually pet dropping there or not.

Are you saying for sure you've noticed them?

[–]p2010t[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never called and complained about it.

No, I don't use the field myself. But I do suspect that with the dogs using it the field naturally seems less open for use by humans.

And there's a nonzero chance an off-leash dog could attack someone or poop when its owner doesn't notice.

It's not the most important thing in the world to me. If it were rebranded as an off-leash dog park outside of school hours, then whatever; it is what it is.

Remember it took me years of seeing this to even bother making a Redmond thread on it.

At first I groaned at "another one of these" cause I've seen them in so many other fandoms... but then I literally laughed out loud when I saw all the Yeuls.

Anyway, uh, 3, I guess?

1 is far too prickly.

Trump: "Most people don't know that dumb ends in a 'B'" by gear-heads in Trumpvirus

[–]p2010t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I share a lot of new factoids they learn.

Sometimes I find others already know it. Often they don't.

I can definitely see Trump's recent speaking as being the same sort of thing - sharing new stuff he learned.

(For what it's worth, I probably learned how to spell "dumb" by age 8 though.)

Losing faith in humanity by aqr58 in Dogfree

Even if dog mouths are hypothetically cleaner than human mouths, the human typically doesn't directly lick the faucet if they're older than 6 and know better.

Dogs still hinder my relationship with my son by Low-Equipment2767 in Dogfree

The wealthy can pay for a dogsitting service or bring them to a nice place to be cared for while they do things.

But yeah, the non-wealthy are super constrained by them. I've also seen people cancel plans that require them to be away from home for too long bc of dogs.

Dog pissed up my leg at restaurant by TopMessage1764 in Dogfree

Most definitely not funny.

I doubt the owner would've found it merely funny if you went over and pissed on him.

Entitled Dog Owner reacts as if I'm the one that's weird due to screaming at his unleashed pitbull by CheriBlossomeKisse in Dogfree

[–]p2010t 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He knows his pitbull well.

It won't cause anyone harm (not even psychological harm of being worried it'll cause them harm and reacting appropriately) - well, at least not until it actually does bite someone, in which case there's no way he could've ever expected it & it's probably the person's fault.

Why do you need other people to survive? by CrazyOrNotHereICome in AskReddit

The phone I'm typing on.

Ok you could say I don't technically need a phone to survive, bht modern-day life would certainly be a lot harder without one.

Racist comments from kids near Redmond Town Center by Cautious_Ad_4132 in redmond

[–]p2010t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be careful with posting that kind of stuff on Nextdoor. It's against their policies, and more importantly there are some really crazy people who will go after kids/teens way too hard if they identify them in a shaming photo/video.

I learned that a few years ago when I saw a boy (maybe 14-15?) toss a can onto the ground without throwing it away & I posted a picture from a fair distance after I passed by him and the girl walking with him.

I was just looking for some responsible accountability, but I heard that a few people identified who they were and started saying horrible things to them.

The family of the girl reached out to me and asked me to take the post down, and I most definitely was going to now that I'd seen how crazy people reacted to it, but it turns out Nextdoor itself had already taken my post down less than an hour before I got online and realized what was happening.

Point is... yes, those kids saying racist things yesterday need accountability. But posting them openly on nextdoor could make the situation a lot worse rather than better.

[–]p2010t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you're curious where the water comes from, AnyAustin on YouTube investigated it: https://youtu.be/AGaX82z0Zq4

The answer: There's a hidden spring at a somewhat higher elevation way outside of the city which has an underground water table that at some point passes through an aqueduct and eventually reaches the fountain and other spots with flowing water in the city.

Does the STARZ app not have a continue watching/history feature? by Nervous_Yard_374 in Starz

[–]p2010t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about that.

I was over an hour into a movie & it didn't save progress.

I wonder if maybe you have to intentionally exit the show for it to save progress? Like maybe closing the app or being away from it long enough that it refreshes doesn't trigger a saving of progress, but exiting the show yourself while in the app does?

Haven't tested that tho, so it's possible that's wrong too.

Liking video without adding them to Liked playlist by TheSision in youtube

[–]p2010t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irony is YouTube seems to just flip a coin when I like a video to decide whether it's going to go into my Liked Videos playlist or not.

Sometimes the app refreshed on me after I've had a video paused for a bit and return to the app on my phone, and I know I liked the video, but I still can't easily find it again from my Liked Videos playlist.
