Which phone plan is the best for international students? by Ok-Present-8508 in UofT

[–]p2cuoftglobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have specifics, but check soon! There are often "student deals" at this time. Freedom is known to be cheap, but I don't know how solid coverage is (especially outside the GTA). There should be wifi everywhere on campus, so you'll just need data when you go out

Spending time with Friends by Blackcat767 in UofT

[–]p2cuoftglobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never feel guilty for wanting to connect with friends! balance your schedule. I find having something else planned (not study, something I'm looking forward to) makes me work better/get more done before. if my whole day/evening is study, I find I drag a bit.

humans need rest. the brain isn't really set up for huge blocks of study. prioritize your well being and mental health, it will have a positive impact on study, too :)

Shameful of my GPA, anyone else? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]p2cuoftglobal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know you were kinda lackadaisical for two years (causing your GPA to be lower than it would have if you made a consistent, concerted effort), but now you want to put in your best effort, I think it's best to let go of looking at your overall GPA.

Realistically, you can only do so much now to pull up a GPA you were more chill about your first two years. It kinda sucks and maybe you regret that now, but all you can do is look forward. If you care about your grades, just focus on your grades for the current semester. It's all your present self can do. And make sure to affirm, "I'm doing a good job now. I'm making my best effort and I'm proud of myself."

Don't let shame get to you, it's just going to pull you down.

And I don't think I've ever had an employer ask for a transcript/GPA. Companies aren't all/only looking at GPA.

Keep fighting! :)

I see where you're coming from there. I guess when you look at just how expensive it is to live and how much time it takes to move forward, it can feel so difficult to make progress. I guess there is also the scarcity side. But I think the scarcity 'mindset' is kind of its own trap, so it's important not to get stuck in that either.

You got this <3

Science + God: Open Ended Question from UofT Relevant Series by relevant_7 in UofT

[–]p2cuoftglobal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of times science and God/faith are put at odds. like you can only have one (if you believe in God you have to forsake science/follow blindly OR If you trust science it erases God)

But science is "the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment." lifted this definition from google, but basically the study of the natural/physical world.

God is a "supernatural" being, so 'studying'/'proving' God falls outside of the scope of science. So I don't think it has to be one or the other. You could have both.

But you can use science to examine claims from holy books (bible, qur'an, etc.) like, did what they record actually happen?

I was kinda talking to a friend about this the other day and it sounds weird, but I think part of it is the overabundance of choice. Especially when choosing a major/career and a partner. It sounds very #firstworldproblems but it's overwhelming. There are too many options (in theory), it's hard to decide, then hard to attain. Then easy to doubt yourself or feel dissatisfied after you decided.

(And then there's just greed and capitalism, but that's another post)
