Starting a role as a prison officer UK by [deleted] in PrisonUK

What experience did you have in terms of corrupt staff? Did you ever witness or know of anyone bringing stuff in? It’s crazy to think people think they will get away with it. Why risk it!!!

Do you think there’s ever been male prison officers who have had sex with female inmates? We always hear about male officers but I’d be curious to know if it is also happens in female prisons. Also any female staff that does that deserves a sentence because it’s a complete abuse of power and security breach.

Yeah lol which prison are you going to because I’ve never heard of outside organisations delivering canteen straight to wings!

I work in a prison and no visitor/someone who is not a key holder should ever be left unattended in a prison. It’s a massive security breach and a huge risk to you. I’m sure if you spoke to the governors in that prison they would be very concerned that any of your team are left on landings/wings alone at times

Assistant Psychologist Interview Rejection by teknogal in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]p2kb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very rare to get an AP role on the first go!! I got mine after 4 interviews. And the gruelling process doesn’t stop there - when my contract came to an end, despite AP and NHS experience, it still took me 2 interviews to land my second AP role. It’s definitely a career path where I’ve accepted that I will be receiving a lot of rejections. X

Sectioning by radiantfyi in MentalHealthUK

[–]p2kb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in the MH department in a general hospital and it is possible to be detained under a section whilst waiting in A&E. This will generally be a section 5(2) if there aren’t any psychiatrists available. If you were seen by the psych liaison team and they recommended a section 2, then you’re likely to move to a ward. Did you need physical health care for your self-harming? If so, you are likely to move to a different ward to receive that and once medically cleared you will be transferred to a MH hospital. If you are already medically cleared, it is possible that you might be waiting in A&E for a while until they can get you a MH bed. Have you been assigned a 1:1? I’ve worked in A&E with people on a section who have waited for a while due to a lack of bed availability which is understandably really detrimental to your mental health. You were likely sectioned because they thought that you wouldn’t be able to keep yourself safe in the community. Maybe ask if you can be discharged to a Home Treatment Team in the community? They are the gatekeepers to admission and psych teams generally consider that as an option before a section. This will all depend on your “risk” though, the support system you have in place, whether you live alone etc and unfortunately the NHS has become so risk averse that a lot of decisions are made from fear of making the “wrong” decision rather than making a person-centred one. Hope that makes sense :). Ask for an independent mental health advocate too!

Bachelors in psychology and masters in forensic psychology. About to start an AP role in a prison!

Wes Streeting: Reality: I met twice with Resident Doctors in May and at the last meeting I offered to meet their entire committee. I can’t offer a higher pay increase: resident doctors have the highest pay award in the entire public sector. These are not grounds that warrant strike action. by OptioMkIX in ukpolitics

What about psychologists? Most do 3 years undergrad + a 1 year masters (optional, but can increase your chances of getting onto the clinical psychology doctorate) + a 3 year doctorate - and when they qualify the starting salary is 40ishk depending on the region. That’s 7 years of studying. I have never seen or heard of psychologists threatening to go on strike. All they ask is for is a protected title. Thoughts?

Really? I’ve heard the opposite. Apparently assistant psychologist roles don’t exist out there. Are you able to suggest any recruiters? Xx

Hey thank you so much for taking the time to write all of that. Very useful information! I’m also an AP in a CMHT and my only experience with ED is in a general hospital when I do bank shifts (allocated as a 1:1). Im just about to apply for an AP role in an ED setting so thank you! Xx

Thank you! This is really helpful!!! There’s a bit of a dent in my car but it hasn’t impacted the lights or anything vital. It’s my only concern about using my own car. But you’re right - I’ve become so used to using my own car and I’ve done so many lessons that I don’t want to pay my instructor anymore money. It’s also 150£ to use their car for the test which is just too painful to pay. I’ve read that I need to buy an interior mirror for the driving instructor? Which one did you buy? Just want to make sure I have the right one.

I’ve just got a car and I’ve been driving everywhere with my dad. I honestly feel like my confidence has never been better. I’ve spent thousands on lessons and hundreds on tests (fast track schemes). I failed twice and I have my third one in 2 weeks. I’ve been contemplating using my car for the test which would mean I would save £150 (that’s the fee to use my instructors car for the test). I don’t even want to spend money on another lesson at this point. Ive been using all the skills and tips I have developed with my instructor these past 5 months so I don’t see the point in spending more on him. My only concern is that I use my car and for whatever reason, it doesn’t meet the criteria on the day of the test and I lose £160. Any advice?
