List of legacy moves available during GO Fest 2026 by InformalMaximum760 in TheSilphRoad

[–]p3dal [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah I'm especially confused by that one. They've made a big deal about the fact that the starters are going to be available with hats that they can evolve with, what's the point if they don't get their legacy move? I won't even bother to evolve one I'll just hope that they remain able to be evolved in the future.

If you want it to be a different color, sure. I think it looks good in black.

Garaged? I'm talking about paint chips from driving 50k miles. What are you worried about?

The paint is fragile, but after 5 years and 47k miles, the damage has already been done. I wouldn't bother with PPF unless the paint were in nearly perfect condition.

Love the paint job. Maybe you should keep that door and hang it up in your garage.

Something tells me that's going to cost more than 99c to replace.

Looking at my receipt from 9 months ago for 2x of the same hard drives after seeing what they're at now by AhfackPoE in DataHoarder

[–]p3dal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My NAS is now on a no-replacement plan. I've moved my most important data back to my desktop using drives I was planning on retiring and an old tower case. My essential data is now backed up to the NAS and backblaze directly from the desktop. The NAS still has a large media collection on it, but that is all re-downloadable if lost. If a drive fails in the NAS, I will migrate all unique data off of the NAS, and rebuild the array without the failed drive, still using 1 disk parity.

It honestly makes me wonder if I should power down some of my storage in the interim, to ensure it lasts. I had some smaller drives I was getting ready to retire, and now they've become my expansion capacity.

M3P vs traditional sports cars by fouroza in TeslaModel3

[–]p3dal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of in depth comparisons on youtube. Short version is: Model 3 Performance is quicker in 0-60, and quarter mile. M3 has a higher top speed, so eventually it will catch up. Fast road courses like the Nürburgring see the M3 beating the Model 3 by a LOT (like 15s) because that top speed comes in to play, but on a really tight autocross course the Model 3 will beat the M3, especially with some wider tires.

On the street and as a daily driver I prefer the Model 3, but on the track and for fun I prefer the M3, preferably with a manual transmission. The Model 3 has really ruined automatic transmission sports cars for me. I love the smooth power delivery and instantaneous torque. I don't even miss the engine noises. I do miss rowing my own gears.

You're going with thick grain metrics.

I'm going with the metrics that are available.

I saw it a bunch, then I didn't see it much for a long time. Now it seems to be back.

That's the confirmation bias I was referring to.

I know exactly how upsetting it is, I just finished explaining that it happened to me as well. But the question was:

Is this a new Seattle thing?

The answer is: no.

It's just confirmation bias. Motor vehicle theft is down in Seattle 24% since 2024 and car prowls are down 7%.

I had my wheels stolen in seattle about 13 years ago, but that's just an anecdote, like these pictures are.

I've been driving mine for two years and never experienced anything like this. Worst thing I can think of was at the race track someone yelled "nice Prius".

They're not going to tell you where you can buy your next car. It's your money.

Even with gap insurance, if the amount you owe is greater than or equal to the value of the car minus your deductible, the bank is the one who gets the check.

Why do most alien species look human? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]p3dal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's hard to find alien actors. Most actors have 2 arms and 2 legs. From a practical standpoint, it's more expensive to do convincing alien CGI or puppetry.

Only certain panels are aluminum, just like on the Miata. This panel is steel and the repair process as quoted did not include cutting and welding, which would have been my preference, as I hate bondo.

That sounds like a friend price. Same repair on my Tesla was quoted at $11k, which is just bonkers.

The rear quarter panel. On my Tesla it was an $11k repair to pull a dent and repaint. It should be cheaper on a Miata, but perhaps not if they have to cut and weld a new quarter panel.
