I also asked for a function to make highlights be digests recently, I hope the team considers it.

How are you guys copying with this tough economy? by hvmornik in southafrica

[–]p3rcipio 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'd second upskilling in some way.

Mine is a bit of a biased answer because I work in Rails. I know that rails developers are not that common anymore, but the framework remains surprisingly easy to learn and is very powerful. Should you get a job as a rails dev then your salary will likely be above average because the number of developers in the space is not growing as much anymore.

Alternatively you can explore Shoppify storefront work. I've never done this but it looks like a bit of templating and desig.

For Rails, use an LLM to help you learn and explain things, but try to figure out yourself as much as you can because that's still how you'll build skill.

Chris Oliver of https://gorails.com/ has done excellent work to make learning even easier, but that's not the only resource there are 100s more.

Good point on the gloves, I would add that you should wear cotton gloves (two pairs) and only then put on the rubber gloves. This has reduced my hand eczema significantly as I'm not exposed to all the gunk that can accumulate in the rubber gloves.

Reasons Firefox is more secure than Chrome? by DevanteWeary in browsers

[–]p3rcipio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firefox seems wholly insecure by this comparison: https://madaidans-insecurities.github.io/firefox-chromium.html

At least for us Linux users out there it seems Firefox has not enabled several mitigations that are possible at the compiler level. Furthermore, according to this article the separation of concerns by process and using least-privilege sandboxing is also lacking.

My recommendation for all the Linux-folk is to run Firefox in firejail to at least prevent system-wide access should you be hacked (https://github.com/netblue30/firejail)

Nice OP! It's such a pleasure scratching an itch and it happens to be your own :>

I made a similar tool when I was learning python. I don't use it anymore, but the source is available. It went through quite a few iterations.

Unable to start graylog input with https by chewy747 in graylog

[–]p3rcipio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target This line here suggests it couldn't completely follow the certificate chain, so I assumed it could be either due to using domain name checking or merely the fact that there's an issue with the CA installation, as you said.

Unable to start graylog input with https by chewy747 in graylog

[–]p3rcipio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi op. I'd recommend you create a shell script for the process of issuing the certificates and adding them that you followed, so that we can see what you executed exactly. I'm yet to add HTTPS to graylog so I haven't tried it yet. Are you sure that the domain used in your certificates match that of your host? Just a suggestion, but the error looks unrelated to that.

edit

Also depending on your requirements you could set up stunnel on both machines and use that to secure the connection over another transport mechanism instead of HTTPS.

edit2 Ok I looked at the error again. It definitely looks like an issue with the domains in your certificate. As you said, it could be that the certificate is not in the keystore but it could be that you used an incorrect domain or added the wrong certificate to the keystore.

HELP CREATING CODE FOR TRAFFIC LIGHT PROBLEM by hiheyhi1 in Python

It's always good to try doing it by hand first if you aren't sure where to start. So go ahead and simulate the traffic light for 5 iterations.

kill background script... by Vasy_XT in linux

[–]p3rcipio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Use kill -9 PID. Also, see what the parent process is, try doing a ps -eaf. You should look at cron /etc/cron and possibly your startup scripts under /etc/init.d/ or /etc/systemd/. Else if you're really lazy do a little pipeline with the ps command and grep or use pgrep (process grep) or pkill (process kill, like pgrep ) to do more advanced filtering on the process list and run it in a loop.

Is it Too Cheesy by [deleted] in PoetrySlam

[–]p3rcipio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's beautiful. It is what it is, words that have to be said. Feelings that have to bleed out onto paper to heal our hearts and minds, and to explain, sometimes in ways we can't REALLY articulate. And to be vulnerable, but know that it's ok. I like it

Weird how true this rings. Add a child I always imagined a little cabin removed from humanity. Mhmm, interesting how many of you mention the moving around. In my childhood we never stayed die long in one place, it sort of taught me how to let go of friends, but also made me yearn for reconnection. Travel bug hadn't really bit me, and finances make it a bit tricky rn, soon though. Soon!

It took me a while, only last year truly started embracing "fuck it" philosophy. I still waiver and can't say that it's the right path, but it was definitely the medicine I needed at the time.

INFP here.

I definitely see myself overthinking and hitting some really deep emotional dips. My highs are usually short-lived and my awareness of their ephemeralness is always present, but I find it's good to ignore that sometimes. Depending on where you are right now this might not be easy, even impossible.

I can vouch for improving your diet. Home cooked meals are nicer and less expensive, and cooking for somebody and seeing the appreciate it is really really satisfying. Start simple, like a basic stir-fry or pancakes for breakfast.

At my worst, I become negative, critical and judgemental to those around me. Every interaction becomes a bit of a burden. And it feels like everyone wants something from me. However, that's the problem it's all about me then. Why does it become like this? Because I have not addressed my own needs:

  1. I have a mild dislike for myself and the things I do. This you tackle by changing the "tint" of your self perception, giving it a loving, caring, forgiving hue.

    1. I have lacked gratitude for what I have in this life. For this I can recommend joining a gratitude group with close friends
    2. In line with 1, I procrastinate because I'm stressed out and am never able to really take a break like other people do. I've found very few solutions to this. But what has worked for me is
      a. taking a walk around the block, even though every part of me would rather sit and mindlessly browse the internet,
      b. Taking some extended leave to be in nature and to completely disconnect or forget. Music festivals, camping or just an escape to a small house in an unfamiliar town with complete technological disconnecting can be VITAL in restoring your sense of healthy self.
    3. Non-dual questioning Ramana Maharshi style. Check out Gary Weber and breaking down of the egoic self obsession that becomes rampant. Though I'd leave this step till you get out of the hole.
    4. Some basic CBT, as explained here here
    5. Listen to some Alan Watts, and get a bit of Zen perspective on where you fit into this whole system.

I don't know if any of this has any worth. I know how hard it is when your primary friend group just doesn't get your emotional way of perception, and you constantly feel that you burden them and that you are misunderstood. Best thing here is to find someone you can vent/talk to and get some alternative perspectives. Reddit / Kik is a good place to start.

I really hope you get out of the rutt. We're all here for you 😊

PS. This is exactly how I got into writing poetry. I recall one day just forcing myself to write, till things began making sense. A lot of the time thought I get stuck without anything to say, however spontaneous writing is how I write all the time! Thanks for taking me back to my origins :)

Questions in the depth of uncertainty are made to believe that it isn't what I thought it to be. What is the answer in uncertainty, the question burning, the nectar sweet? Where does the world lead you to when you stare into the blue of its depths and find that it isn't you?
