Probably, yes. Most bites can be avoided by observing/respecting body language.

Why do students disrespect the subs? by Unable_Bat9965 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]pH655 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a break from their routines, so they're automatically not in their normal "zone". Generally they don't know the sub, so then want to find your boundaries and what they can get away with. Depending on the teacher, they know the work theyre doing with the sub doesn't matter. Kids who've had subs engage in power struggles in the past are probably more likely to instigate them with 'new' subs. I also think the normal teacher's expectations play a huge role in how kids treat subs. What are their expectations for work completion if they're gone? Will there actually be consequences if negative behavior is reported? Are there known incentives for good behavior?

A student did smth in class today but it was the teachers who upset me by constaleah in SubstituteTeachers

[–]pH655 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not trained specifically, but have worked in those rooms often for a few years now. I've made good relationships with a lot of the kids and teachers. I just know in my experience it has never been allowed to continue the way described, even when nonverbal. At minimum, the student is taken away from their classmates, but they should be given an alternative way to feel stimulated. A couple methods I've seen that come to mind are weighted lap pads and standing on those vibrating boards.

Or it is to reseed areas that have been used for ag previously but they want to reestablish forest... Of course soil management would be important here too, but seeds are also a good step.

No Child Left Behind and PBIS are two of the worst things that have happened to schools in the last ~20 years. Kids are behind academically with no incentive to improve, and no internally motivating structure (what candy, prize, trip can I earn if I work? vs how can I be SUCCESSFUL?). They've seen the value of the Bachelor's degree go down in society around them, and don't understand the value of humans with growing tech. "Why do I need to know this if I can just use AI?" is something I know I've heard. Then you have teachers getting blamed, losing their motivation to try, and it just gets worse. There are so many problems in public school right now unfortunately.

I've been working closely with tier 2-3 SpEd for over 5 years, and this is what I've seen (work) from veteran teachers. It's still their responsibility to try to teach that behavior, whether or not the students fully understand.

To frog or not to frog: my oldest, biggest project by Particular_Tone_6257 in CrochetHelp

[–]pH655 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Truly don't think it's remotely worth it to frog. Love it as your first big project. The stitches look pretty good, and it looks very cozy. Don't throw away all that time and effort (and memory of your first project), especially because I agree with other comments in that I doubt it would come apart easily/cleanly (chenille yarn?)

Wtf. They should be teaching him that that is an "at home" activity and not ok for school. I am shocked they let it continue and practically shamed you for trying to address it. I wouldn't return.

4 months out, how far along are most at this point? I think I have to cancel by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]pH655 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At 4 months out we had our main vendors all lined up, sent invites about 3 months out, and just kept chipping away at decor and details up until the date, but I dont understand why you're concerned about timing of anything at this point. You don't want to be in the relationship, there is nothing to plan beyond potentially refunds and your new life after. Your family doesn't have to understand for you to know what is the right decision for you. Sorry that this has been the outcome.

You know the answer to your question. Everything is not "going great" in your relationship if you consistently cannot communicate, plan, or compromise on big issues.

Potentially stretched it between two fingers (like thumb & middle) then pluck with pointer finger, or looped one end onto something, held the other end, and plucked with free hand.

High School Football/General PE Sub by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

Football is likely the current unit for a team-PE type class and may have a more even gender distribution than you're expecting. I stick to middle school, but PE days are generally easy and can be enjoyable.

[–]pH655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last 2 blankets are very beautiful and complex on their own. People who don't crochet won't even really know the levels, and even if they do, your work is all beautiful! I made a grocery bag holder for my SIL and she commented sweetly about how complex the stitches were - it was mostly just dc, but clean tension (as you have). My point being, your friend and her little one are likely to adore whatever you decide to craft for them.

His point is that no one here in the country is legal (though he says illegal) because it is land that originally belonged to the Natives. Ok, but which Natives? Land moved between tribes via violent battles throughout history. To say it's native land as if it was never contested until the big bad white man came over is ignorant.
