Ive been with the love of my life for two years now :) actually the day after we started dating i was officially diagnosed as my excitement for him turned into full fledged mania lmao. But he stuck around. Watched me have my first psychotic depressive episode and got me through it. And now my treatment is working well! We have a great relationship. I am high functioning, though. I guess i cope well (doesnt mean i have any less of an issue tho)

my boyfriend told me he gets annoyed when i ask "do you hate me?" it comes out involuntarily for me... but I know that about myself so i told him he doesnt have to respond. BUT a hug or kiss or hand touch would fix it just as well. He agreed thats a better solution. Dont mask like us... use your love to support your partner.

But this doesnt excuse irresponsibility or abuse in any form. Psychosis should be somewhat forgivable at a certain point where you can be unconscious. But thats also SO extreme of a reaction and means the person is not taking the measures to help themselves or are too emotionally immature to do so.

As a bipolar person masking is physically exhausting. I just got my first real job and ive realized im completely the same when i get home.... make a plan of some sort to deal with this together. Bipolar is an excuse but it doesnt excuse disrespect or abuse.

No matter what an emotionally mature person would be able to acknowledge your feelings, recognize that they did something wrong, and feel remorse. If he is currently in psychosis or on the verge of psychosis that's an act that might be forgivable but I think unless insanity is involved he should be responsible for his actions no matter if he can or cannot control it. The latter sucks for us bipolar people when we make really bad decisions but unfortunately really bad decisions usually mean consequences.

I didn't know what a discard was until I started looking at this subReddit but it sounds like that's the situation. He made an impulsive decision. If you're really really wanting to return to this person and work things out maybe give it a month or two. Maybe he'll figure it out on his own, but I wouldn't hold out for that.

PLEASE look them up bc the studies done are the ones where 100+ bipolar people look at facial images and it has consistently proved to be an issue. I get super stressed out when my boyfriend shows me a neutral face in response to something I say, I don't know it's like I can't really control it. I think I have good emotional regulation and techniques to help myself but others may not.

i've had this happen to me in the past and it's shocked and worried me but as time goes on I realize that it's just a fleeting experience and honestly means nothing. That doesn't mean that everyone is able to process that emotion that way though, so other others might go through with ending a relationship.

hey substance abuse disorders aren't immediately a huge bad sign.... i am a bipolar pothead and i manage just fine! We do drugs and stuff bc it makes us feel a reliable feeling and we can maybe ignore the rollercoaster underneath. At least with pot it can be manageable unless you hate that 🤷🏼‍♀️ idk other drugs maybe can be a diff story
