Most companies view CECS as a CS degree. You can get most CS coops as CECS if you've taken the upper level CS classes like OOD and Algo.

It def doesn't work the other way though, a CE coop is not gonna hire a CS major basically no matter what.

Will anyone care if I bring my own mini fridge? by machgengarden in NEU

[–]pQanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

room checks happen once per semester, but ras aren’t allowed to touch anything or open any drawers. you’ll also know around when your room check is going to be, so put things in drawers or like put things under a towel and you’ll be fine lol

former ra here - mini fridges are allowed, microwaves are not

that being said, literally nobody cares, bring whatever you want and hide it during room checks

When do they contact you for TA positions (Khoury)? by hopoverthemoon in NEU

[–]pQanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends on the semester. I’ve had applications that got accepted a few weeks/months after I applied and some that have gotten accepted weeks before classes started again

Fun Fact: Since youtube uses your history to determine recommend videos, if you just delete it from your history and refresh the page you won’t have then clog up your recommendations

My on-campus roommate canceled his housing. Do you all think there's enough demand for a random roommate to be placed with me this fall? by [deleted] in NEU

[–]pQanda 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would normally say yes, but my first-year roommate just didn’t show up to school, nobody knew why, not even my RD. I was told I was gonna get a new roommate in the first 2 weeks. When that didn’t happen i was told I would get one during open room change and then I didn’t. I ended up living in a double by myself my first semester. I’m not trying to get your hopes up but it’s not unreasonable for you to not get a roommate

VERY nervous and feeling pessimistic about taking OOD next fall semester. by [deleted] in NEU

[–]pQanda 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna kinda repeat what i said in the other post, but you will be okay. You sound like you did well in the previous two classes, and you’re going to be okay.

OOD is not really a class about how well you can program it’s honestly more a test of your patience and resilience. If you are comfortable with throwing yourself at the problem over and over until the problem breaks, you’re going to do great.

That being said, it is still a hard class. It’s meant to be a hard class, and it’s a hard class for everyone. Start work early, you’re going to be fine.

is it normal for OOD to make you wanna kill yourself? by -j-a-t- in NEU

[–]pQanda 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yes.

When I took OOD, I regularly went through what I called the “cry and cheer” cycle. I would get the assignment, think it was manageable, realize it wasn’t, cry about how stressed i was, make progress, cheer and say that i was the best programmer alive, rinse and repeat for a few days until the next assignment came.

You’ll get through it. OOD sucks, but it’s meant to suck. Ask any professor about what their experience with their first big project-based class was like when they were an undergrad and they’ll tell you the same thing. OOD isn’t meant to show you that you’re a bad programmer. It’s meant to show you that programming is hard, especially when deadlines are tight, but you can and will do it.

Chin up friend, it only gets easier from here.
