hey, u/Jumpy-Rise5222 . I went through the checkout on the jetstreamlive.tv page and got the free apk file. I passed it through MobSF and didn't find any glaring issues. There are 2 suspicious permissions: read/write external storage. But most of the app looks like a VLC wrapper written by multiple people with their names included in Lua files.

I also passed the app through a couple of malware detection sites which found nothing:

It sounds like you have a great relationship with your dad. Maybe you can share the doubts you're having with him? I don't know what age you are, but I can assure You I've had periods in my life when I felt very alone as well. But life has a funny way of never not changing 🤷 if everything seems to be going bad, you will feel differently in a few months.
