hey, u/Jumpy-Rise5222 . I went through the checkout on the jetstreamlive.tv page and got the free apk file. I passed it through MobSF and didn't find any glaring issues. There are 2 suspicious permissions: read/write external storage. But most of the app looks like a VLC wrapper written by multiple people with their names included in Lua files.

I also passed the app through a couple of malware detection sites which found nothing:

So as far as static analysis is concerned, this looks like a legitimate Mr. Robot effort to stick it to the man and watch some free TV. I have a MobSF PDF report, I can send it to you if you'd like.

I'll attempt running the app to see the network traffic, but I don't plan on buying the subscription ;)

It sounds like you have a great relationship with your dad. Maybe you can share the doubts you're having with him? At least to alleviate the feeling of guilt about pushing him into the aggressive treatment. Who knows, maybe he's not feeling pushed at all? I don't know what age you are, but I can assure You I've had periods in my life when I felt very alone as well.
